Well, you’ve already admitted to enjoying the Google colonoscopies, so I don’t think it matters.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

^ Occasionally. I don't host my own, but another forum I frequent just put up their own instance. I haven't done all that many searches lately, but usually I tend to switch around between that one, the Silkky.Cloud instance, various public SearX instances, DDG, Startpage, Ecosia (because trees) and Swisscows (because cows). My "default" engine (meaning the one I've configured to have the Vimium extension for FF use when I press 'O') is still DDG though (because !bangs).

Hey, don't kink-shame me. And you'll be happy to know that, according to Google, I am currently prostate-cancer free.

That's great news. Also, you'd be extra glad to hear that Google sent that medical report to your insurance company without your knowledge, and said insurance company's cunning plan to increase your yearly policy premium has been foiled! Double win for you!!

Oh wait, they also were sent your Android phone's GPS logs, and that path you take on your pushbike cutting through traffic on the way to work might give em a valid reason for increasing your premium anyway. The very short time from your house to workplace also indicates some form of Pharmstronging, so you'll probably be called in for a piss test next Monday.

Good point, thanks.

Constructive suggestions for alternatives? Startpage?

FWIW, I do not care about people saying "but Google simply has the best results" - they simply do not understand that the reason it has the "best" results, is the reason why you should stop using it.
DDG has always served me well enough, but I think I'll give startpage another try for now.

I use swisscows as my primary search engine since maybe a year. DDG is my backup. My 90-year old mother is a happy DDG-user.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

^ok i'm going to give that a try.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with privacy friendly services coming from Switzerland - probably a poor people's internet pendant to swiss numbered bank accounts.

From their privacy policy:

We do not create personal profiles, but anonymize all search queries after 7 days.

Makes me wonder why they can't do that immediately.

But, no search bubble. Surely that's the most important thing, and surely e.g. DDG also provide that?

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

I simply like the search 'experience' with swisscows better than the one I get from DDG. This not to say I find it perfect and as always, YMMV.

Re: Cool Random Internet Stuff

I've been using metager, also on the privacytools page, for a while now. It's OK, maybe worth giving a try.
