Kat Skinner Skins The Cat

I promised myself that I'd start using this electric violin that I bought over a year ago but have barely used. Starting a new thread so I don't spam the "Listening To Now?" one.

It's been months since I've played, so I'm way out of shape and this is ugly. Isolated Keith Moon (Won't Get Fooled Again, 1971) with a lot of reverb on drums, the other three tracks are me on fiddle, the processing is all done in Audacity. I recorded the fiddle tracks and then slapped in the drums last-minute, it was a good call. ToTheMoonCrash...

It's crap, I know. Like being trapped in a beehive.

Hell yes! Can't wait to do another track tomorrow.

Re: Kat Skinner Skins The Cat

Whatever. More fiddle tracks to come.

It's not a self-appreciation thread, it's a thread. You don't have to listen to it, you don't have to appreciate, you don't even have to click on it. I said myself the track sucked by my standards, this is a thread to get me motivated to play more fiddle. Sad, I know, I have to post online to help motivate myself to do the one thing I'm half-talented and half-trained at. What's you're hidden talent?

Dude, leave me alone with my music.

Albert Finney as Hercule Poirot in "Murder On the Orient Express"...

Now you've accidentally said something valuable!

You don't like my attempts at levity?
C'mon, it's all good, we're all just pals here. Can't you take a joke.

Re: Kat Skinner Skins The Cat

Wasted 3 hours messing with Ardour, jackd and a Focusrite Scarlett USB interface for a microphone/instrument, I could record finally and see the meters move but got nothing on playback. I messed with the routing interface for an hour with no joy.

I wish I had just used Audacity, I'd a have something decent to post. Curses, foiled again!

Re: Kat Skinner Skins The Cat

Audicaty FTW. It's only five tracks of fiddle with pitch-shift, reverb and echo, and only a minute long, but at least it's something for this week. I haven't played since my last post, but already bow control and tone are improved, intonation still needs work. I need to play everyday through the amp without messing with a recording interface.

Re: Kat Skinner Skins The Cat

A bit longer, a bit more polished. Baby steps...

https://soundcloud.com/hhh-orb/chugga-chugga

Drums by Keith Moon, fiddles, vocals and production by Kat Skinner.

This one's good, I like the last ten seconds especially (turn it up). One minute, 19 seconds total, but it's way longer than that to the ear. 1:20 easily!

Re: Kat Skinner Skins The Cat

You're getting there, it's sounding pretty realistic already!
Go for it dude, you're going to make it!
It's never too late, and the world has shown us many times that even the sound of a cat being skinned can make it to the top!

Re: Kat Skinner Skins The Cat

Not a big fiddle fan but I strangely enjoyed these. Really noticeable on how much you have improved on every track, the level off progression its like night and day. You got this, keep up the practice and don't stop!
