There are some videos on Youtube of a private performance for Bill Kreutzman's 75 birthday party. They are excellent. Billy Strings, Carlos Santana, and I'm not sure who all else, as I haven't watched all of them, yet. Here is one of them:

Thanks! This is really nice. Somehow the groove is slightly different to the Dead - it took a few minutes to find it but I'm pretty sure it's the bass. Phil Lesh's melting dissolving acid bass is special. (Is he still playing?)

But anyway, enjoying the jam a lot - now up to Iko Iko.

^To me Piazzolla's tangos and Gypsy Jazz are two quite different things. Agreed about the surreal suspended-reality feel of tangos - sitting catatonically with a red rose and a glass of wine - but I also really love the romantic guitar+violin Manouche Jazz.

Speaking of European guitar jazz, found this guy on an electronica mix cd (Kid Loco, Another Late Night).   Really love this.  Gabor Szabo, Mizrab

Certainly sounds like JLP, but there is a credit:

PS love FZ's guitar! He was at a peak round then I guess - a lot of his later work leaves me a bit cold.

Zappa is still my all-time favourite guitarist - his playing "no two solos alike" is pretty true, although like most guitarists he reused licks but he kept redeveloping and redeveloping...   if you can't get enough Zappa this guy @br1tag on Youtube splices together songs/solos.  This is around 50 minutes of "If only she woulda", Zappa's homage/satire of The Doors, complete with Ray Manzarek-style keyboard solo at the start, then about 45 minutes of Zappa "Woulda" guitar solos stitched together.   These are all from 1980 or 1981 - amazing how different they all are.  And great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qPUtH-LaKdE

00:00 1980-03-26 Vancouver - If Only She Woulda
05:42 1980-03-30 Sacramento - If Only She Woulda
10:23 1980-04-01 (E) Berkeley - If Only She Woulda
12:43 1980-04-08 (E) Phoenix - If Only She Woulda
16:42 1980-04-29 (E) Upper Darby - If Only She Woulda
20:32 1980-06-11 (E) Paris - If Only She Woulda
28:51 1980-11-13 (L) Pittsburgh - If Only She Woulda
35:57 1980-12-11 (E) Santa Monica - If Only She Woulda
40:52 1981-11-01 (L) New York - If Only She Woulda
45:16 1980 YAWYI outtakes - If Only She Woulda

"If only she woulda" is far from my favourite Zappa song but these are some of my most-loved Zappa solos.

Probably Sacramento is my favourite... but then I don't really have to choose.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I have always liked They Might Be Giants - great lyrics, nice music, always off-genre.
Recently I was reminded of this one again:
Your Racist Friend

I know politics bore you
But I feel like a hypocrite talking to you
And your racist friend

It was the loveliest party that I've ever attended
If anything was broken I'm sure it could be mended
My head can't tolerate this bobbing and pretending
Listen to some bullet-head and the madness that he's saying

Out from the kitchen to the bedroom to the hallway
Your friend apologizes, he could see it my way
He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking
Can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding

Give to COVAX! Here or here. (explanation)

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Kennedy Center Honors for Sir Paul McCartney, live, 2011 ( I think).

No Doubt - Penny Lane

Norah Jones and David Grhol - Maybe I'm Amazed

Steven Tyler - She Came In Through the Bathroom Window/Carry That Weight/And In the End

James Taylor and Mavis Staples - Let It Be

The music starts at 4:45. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36XtOG_nkSw

There's an interview after John Entwistle's death where Pete admits he got too much credit for being a lead guitarist, because for the early Who albums, John was the lead guitarist on bass and Pete did rhythm and vocals.
John tribute video where he gets to show some technique...

Kat Skinner presents Dub U Crazy Episode 24, Music Only Preview. Putting this show together for a release on Sunday, which means it needs to be done by Thursday at the latest, which I'm on track for. Fifteen, maybe twenty more minutes of music and some narration and done.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

A rebroadcast of an old episode of Dub U Crazy airs on OHM Radio, 96.3 FM, Charleston (SC) in an hour and a half. Episode 8, I believe...

-edit- It didn't air, a screw-up by the programming director. A flipping folk show aired, I'm deeply insulted.

I'm enjoying the NieR: Automata original soundtrack. It's a game I'll never play, but the OST is generally highly regarded. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_of_Nier.

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEVYS7Ofbgo 10/10 would listen again. Esp. from 1:10 & 3:05 <3

Re: What are you listening to right now?

There is no competition between bugs. When you combine two awesome bugs, you get a totally awesome bug.

Chuck Norris doesn't debug. He punches bugs out of existence. He slams his fist into the screen and the code just corrects itself. Like Fonzy, the jukebox starts playing.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ Wow! Akiro from 'Conan the Barbarian' fights Oddjob from 'Goldfinger'! And then... orange-red flowers, an orange-red vase, orange-red books, orange-red napkins, orange-red cocktails, orange-red furniture, orange-red blood, orange-red shoes and Chuck in an orange-red sweater! I feel like the production design on this film wasn't the most imaginative.

I do have one question... is Chuck Norris wearing driving gloves because he know he's about to fight, because he was about to jump into his sports car for a fast run and was interrupted by a fight, or because he was about to jump into his sports car for a fast run to murder Nicole Smith and plant the gloves on OJ's property but was interrupted by a fight?

Asking the real questions.
