Re: What are you watching right now?

^ Way tl:dr; Larry Bird scores 11 points in the last 2 minutes. His shot in front of the Hawks bench in the last minute has the bench falling over themselves.

Larry Bird winning the 3 point shootout, 1988, he's basically in agony at this point, his back is so bad. He walks into the locker room and says "Which one of you is taking second place?" Jaws drop. He never even took his starter jacket off...

And at about 3:10 I believe you can see Michael Jordan thinking "No way. Well, I can beat him with marketing."

Re: What are you watching right now?

I've made it clear that I think the latest Ford Mustang is the best looking American car made since the 1968 Chevy Camaro...

https://www.musclecarszone.com/wp-conte … d-left.jpg

I didn't know they made a Mach 1 version pre-release before the GT and the rest of the new, and here's a lovely British presenter to show it to us, an eleven year old (-ish?) car...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O46E0gCF5os

But the Bullitt reissue is the one I lust for, and here's some horrible dweebs driving this drop-dead gorgeous car...

And finish with a still shot, the 2019 Ford Bullitt..

Re: What are you watching right now?

According to Democracy Now, since the pandemic, the wealth of the top 3 US billionaires now equals the bottom half of the US country's wealth, roughly 175 million people combined. We're talking Jeff Bezos, The Walmart family, Warren Buffet, the Koch brothers, Soros, Mark Zuckenberg, Bill Gates, Apple, Elon Musk.

Over 200 billionaires globally.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbRxv7LwLRc

I think I've said it before, people don't understand how much money just 1 billion is. They think times 100, like a hundred pennies to the dollar. Or times ten. They think "a hundred thousand, that's a lot". "But it's still ten multiples, ten times 10 thousand dollars." They don't realize that the stakes get raised at a hundred thousand.

Well, a million ain't no times 10 or 100, it is times 1000. Sure it's ten times 100,000 dollars, but now we're multiplying ten by ten and we're losing perspective. A million is a thousand thousands. A thousand piles of dollar bills where each pile is 1000 $1 bills. Now you have your first million, a thousand piles of a thousand dollars each. A billion is a thousand million (did you get that? A thousand piles of a million $1 bills. We're getting exponential now), and a trillion is a thousand freaking billion, a thousand piles of $1 dollar bills, and each stack is a billion bills high. It's hard to comprehend how many dollar bills just one billion is, let alone a trillion.

Re: What are you watching right now?

Classic bicycle to fixie conversion...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHVI6BYHRvA

First point, the frame he grabbed is perfect, no restoration needed, though he does a great restoration.

Some price-point issues... $100 for a bottom bracket, I just replaced mine for $25 plus 410 for labor, bit it's the most important component on a fixie, so worth it.

But $230 for cranks? And then the chain ring is only $48? That's on odd decision.

$1000 for wheels. That is obscene, a pair of good fixie wheels should cost $150. Putting a grand of wheels on a vintage frame seems ridiculous to me, this restoration should cost $300-$400, max. Plus, the next thing he adds is a $10 chain, WTF?

I like the stealth saddle, I'll have to look into that product.

The final build is great, though.

An even better one, this guy has a home-built bike stand made of wood and he knows what he's doing...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwd1_OtzM7A

He restores and uses most of the original parts, and his wheel choice is superb, look at those rim-walls. I don't like the bright gold brake lever, but that's a minor preference.

I've been tempted to do a conversion like this, but geared bikes have lower pedal clearance than a purpose built fixie frame, because you don't pedal through highly angled turns. You have to pedal with a fixie, so with that lower clearance it's much easier to clip your pedal into the pavement in a turn and that lifts the back wheel off the ground and then you crash. Often quite badly, and in traffic that's a death wish.

I had a guy in a Cadillac Esplanade SUV, a nearly 3 ton rig, tailgating me down a wide but major Charleston city road a few years ago, he could have easily switched lanes and passed me. Me and my steel-framed bike weigh less than 200 lbs, I'm a mosquito next to his grizzly bear. His window was down, so at the light I said "If I had a tire blowout or other mechanical failure, what would have done?"

Without hesitation, this asshole said "speedbump".

I shouted expletives at him for the next two city blocks. And that was the issue, in the city I was faster than him and I looked cooler travelling it, and he hated that.

^ Epic finish, third closest in history, iirc. Always love a good tarmac rally.

Also, there was no TT in 2020 due to Covid. This year’s is cancelled as well. Only other times the TT wasn’t held was during WW 1 & 2 years. Video you posted is a montage of prior footage. One of the scenes isn’t even from the Isle of Man, but the Northwest 200.

Gotta have to thank Netflix for introducing me to the world of suspenseful and over-the-top South Korean TV shows and movies. Some real gems out there, better than most of what hollywood puts out these days. Have a faible for nordic noir, French crime and South Korean crime/justice shows now smile SK stuff is quite acceptable as long as they keep the supernatural aspect out of it.

Currently watching: Partners for Justice (검법남녀) ludicrous style yet entertaining, unfortunately only 32hours long as the 3rd season will probably never be.

In good memory: The Good Detective (모범형사, good TV series), Stranger (비밀의 숲 TV series; best Korean stuff so far yet); Inside Men (부자들, one of my favourites actually)

Still can't get a hang of Korean though. Japanese is so much easier to understand by ear.

Some other new good Korean drama series on Netflix that are at least "good":

K2 (더 케이투) - over the top corporate secret agent but who cares

Hot Stove League (스토브리그) - who knew Korean baseball could be so entertaining

Live (라이브) - police drama

Misaeng (미생 - 아직 살아 있지 못한 자) - workplace drama ("the office")

Argon (아르곤) - TV drama about TV news making

Extracurricular (인간수업) - high school boy turned school girl pimp runs into a lot of problems

Vagabond (배가본드) - conspiracy drama around weapons dealing and national secret services

And I even have forgotten a couple, will post some more later. Highly recommended are Argon and Extracurricular. It would be alright by me if Netflix would drop the hollywood crap and start posting more of this good SK drama stuff, maybe more Japanese stuff as well. Those are much harder to acquire in a legit way in Europe than the American stuff, which you can stream/buy everywhere.

Well, fellas, I have recently had the misfortune to watch-
*The Toxic Avenger
*The Toxic Avenger 2
*The Toxic Avenger 3
*The Toxic Avenger 4
*The Toxic Avenger Musical
*The Toxic Crusaders cartoon series

None of them were worth watching, and I don't really understand why anyone in their right mind would make anything like that, even in a tongue in cheek way these were all bad.

Now you know.

Re: What are you watching right now?

^ Out of pure masochism, I searched YT for "Toxic Crusaders cartoon"...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JawqxFrdysY

That's either Christopher Lloyd doing one of the voices at the beginning, or someone doing a very decent Chris Lloyd impersonation. Either way, it's absolute dreck with a few clever-ish moments. Basically, a masterpiece of animation.

and giving ....

According to Kaufman, due to the remake of Mother's Day, major motion picture companies were interested in doing remakes of other Troma films.
Among the titles that were in negotiations was The Toxic Avenger. On April 6, 2010, a remake of The Toxic Avenger was announced. The remake,
said to be aiming for a family-friendly PG-13 release similar to the Toxic Crusaders television series, is to be co-written and directed by Steve Pink.
In May 2013, Arnold Schwarzenegger entered talks for a role in the film. In late 2013, Schwarzenegger dropped out to work on Terminator Genisys,
but, as of February 2015, plans for the remake continued to circulate. On September 12, 2016, Variety reported that Conrad Vernon would direct the
film with executive producers Guillermo Del Toro, Bob Cooper, Alex Schwartz, Akiva Goldsman, and Greg Lessans. Mike Arnold and Chris Poole were to
rewrite the screenplay. On December 10, 2018, it was announced that Legendary Pictures had the rights to reboot the film, with Kaufman and Herz
to serve as producers. In March 2019, Macon Blair was announced as both director and writer of the upcoming reboot. In December 2020, Peter Dinklage is set to star.
