Deadpool 2 (2018). I just watched it for the first time, it's one of the best new-ish films I've seen. Not the greatest ending, but getting there is a blast.

Re: BunsenLabs film thread

I'm watching "For a Few Dollars More" (1965) again, and it is amazing. Slow, boring, beautiful cinematography and soundscaping, it's the Blade Runner of westerns. @cog, I just went on a John Wayne kick (Sons of Katie Eldridge and The Quiet Man), but Clint and Sergio and Ennio really had something.

Wait, that timeline is wrong. Blade Runner is the For a Few Dollars More of sci-fi.

The sound production and cinematography are outstanding. This is a really slow, boring, fantastic piece of film.

Apollo 11, a documentary of the first US mission to the moon. Buzz Aldrin's heart rate doesn't go over 88 bpm at launch, what a badass. The footage quality is incredible, the best sci-fi film I've ever seen. I'm watching it on Hulu via their cheapest subscription ($6 US per month), here's a YouTube preview...

It's only a couple of scenes - like the knife fight.

Did they do David Lynch's 'Dune' in 3-D too? Because sting in a Speedo... now that's a knife fight.

i'm almost completely uninterested in westerns, but this looks... really good?  So I guess I'm going to cook a little something up for lunch and watch this thing.

^ That's just what I did. A small rib-eye steak grilled,  and some fresh sweet peas cooked in whipping cream. And the movie was good, for the umpteenth time.

Re: BunsenLabs film thread

The thing with Leone is it's in some ways not even a western, it's just set in the wild west. It's a vista with music over it and then a close-up of a face gazing as the tension builds and you realize it's going to end with some horrible violence or at least a little psychological terror. He's all about the gaze, it's fantastic. The gaze turns into an emotional realization of the situation. I wish he had done a Bond film, or a Dirty Harry one. Or a sci-fi film, that would have been cool. Morricone did it in audio with The Thing.

It's also one of the greatest films ever made, definitely watch it. It's terrifyingly slow, like Blade Runner, or rather Blade Runner imitates this film, but it's a much tighter film than the Man With No Name films. It has a real focus to it. Henry Fonda is always the hero in westerns, here he's the primary villain. And the music, just when tensions are at their highest, that innocently stupid music appears again. The ending is long and slow and drawn out and totally epic.

Morricone bringing the simple song and then the harmonica back at about 2 hours and 22 minutes is just great. The gazes at the end of this film are epic gazes.

^Sam Raimi, almost everything he films is a variation or an exaggeration or an enhancement on Leone.

Now you can check out Fistful of Dynamite (Duck You Sucker) an over-looked Leone film. I haven't seen it in years; not sure if it's available online.
