Watched El Chapo on Netflix and the most memorable thing about this series is the opening song.

Vienen a Verme by iLe

Damn good earworm material. My Spanish is the worst but I have been keeping this on repeat during the workday today wink

Paul singing because John cannot.

One of my favorite songs by Paul (I like Admiral Halsey/Uncle Albert, Ram On and Let 'Em In post-Beatles more), but wait, what????!!!

Paul singing because it's a Paul solo composition and song.

Not as pretty as Paul to be sure, but still great vocals... I'm Only Sleeping, John Lennon from Revolver...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BT5j9OQ7Sh0

And for gorgeous John songs from White Album, let's start with Dear Prudence and Julia...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQA59IkCF5I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZip_br_v3w

Wait, I get it. John can't sing because he's dead. Not cool, dude.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

BTW, Blackbird is not Paul's prettiest song from White Album. That cherry, by a mile, belongs to Mother Nature's Son. Probably the prettiest Paul song I could name and a foreshadow of the other songs I mentioned.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

'70s Paul McCartney criticism, by hhh.

Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey, perfect example. It's 3 songs in one, 4 if you include the short atonal outro. We're So Sorry (Uncle Albert), Hands Across the Water, Little Gypsy Getaround, atonal guitar-lick & drum jam. The song has two titles, need I say more?

This started with A Day In The Life (2 merged songs), which was a great idea, perfectly executed on the White Album, but Paul took the idea too far which ultimately resulted in what I consider to be a catastrophe, Band On the Run (the song, not the whole album).

It's 3 freaking songs. First a synth/guitar song, let's call it "Like You, Momma". Then a way too short jam that should be an epic guitar and vocal track called "If I Ever Get Out Of Here". Remove that utterly clumsy, Live and Let Die-ish transition, I hate it, and release "Band On The Run" as a B-Side...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDzhrO5K02c

The song literally musically reflects the disappointment of my own potential in life. Except, you know, Paul could sing and write songs and is a multi-millionaire Knight Bachelor of Her Majesty and founding member of The Beatles, the most famous rock band in history, and he has a personal 50-year-plus music career that still continues to this day. Otherwise, identical.

Write three songs, Paul, don't squash them into one.

Which is part of why I love Let 'Em In. It's one Paul Simon - 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover-esque groove, or maybe the other way around).

This video is amazing. It's a bunch of dorks on a Central Park stage in front of a half-million people, playing adult-contemporary. They are cucumbers, they are so chill.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I just watched that entire performance again. I liked it a lot.

2013 Superbowl Halftime by Beyonce. I don't even like Beyonce, this is an outstanding performance..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_FnGK3alEA

She loses me at the end, but I bore easily. She's no Madonna.

2014, the quality is starting to slip, Bruno Mars...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qx0FjUhto9o

Katy Perry in 2015, featuring Missy Elliot, this one was pretty damn good.

Epic, actually. Lol, I forgot all about Left Shark.

And one vintage performance. Again, I'm not really a fan, but this is great. Prince, 2007, The Superbowl in the rain. Purple, of course...

I've been listening to a lot of Bacharach and Mancini lately myself, but I get your mood.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Stevie Nicks gets all the cred for singing gravelly, nobody praises Christine McVie. She could sing pure as anyone.

Oh Daddy, written and sung by C. McVie...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdFqIDhGfzQ

This is from Rumours, the most popular Fleetwood Mac album of all time, and one of the best selling recordings of all time period, and it's maybe the most powerful track on the album. And this track never gets played on radio. You may have not even heard it until now.

Karen Carpenter had a perfect voice and emotional phrasing. The funny thing was, she did not want to be a singer (unless she was playing drums, too). She just wanted to be a drummer.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ Beautiful, I hadn't heard that one before. I'm a sucker for a dreamy song with great female vocals production.

I just recently was reminded that Karen started with the drums, that's partly why I posted her songs.

Karen Carpenter on drums and vocals, "Why not?!!???"

Even earlier, I think, Karen on drums...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdECtVO-Epo

Amazing talent and, maybe more importantly, courage combined with poise.

-edit- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9TmMfnZyY4

Mitch Mitchell could play that. Keith Moon would struggle and end up changing it.

Neil Peart would just put all the drums in one kit so he wouldn't have to stand up.
