^Protagonist was way worse for me, so yay villain.

Great, the two major characters both suck. That's a no from me. You keep banking those Benjamins, Nolan. You, J.J. Abrams and Michael Bay.
You'd think ONE of them would have learned something about character development from studying Spielberg, Scorsese, Hitchcock and Welles in film school. Or maybe, you know, by watching good movies in general. There's more character development in Fast Times At Ridgemont High than in those director's combined filmography. Apparently, plot twist, lens flair and explosion will suffice to get you the big bucks these days.
Gaa! I'm going to watch The French Connection. That'll help my film malaise. Maybe a double feature with Serpico. William Friedkin and Sydney Lumet, directors, respectively. Yeah, that'll do nicely.

To be fair though, I find that well put together TV series are much more my thing now. I find the feature length three act movie format to be stale and played out.
This.
OTOH, if a movie goes bad, that's all you have: a bad movie; but if a TV show goes bad, worse case scenario: it goes bad slowly, leaving the viewer with the neverending agony of not being able to ditch it completely... arghh...
But then again, I think I learned to find the off button. I'm not much into suspense anyhow, more into mystery.

Well, I finally got to the first film. I know Serpico well but I've only watched French Connection (1971, directed by William Friedkin) a few times and the last time was years ago. It is a must watch for any film buff, it's riveting from the brief opening credits onward. This early '70s era of film making was coined "New Hollywood".
This movie is early James Bond, Pulp Fiction, All The President's Men and Taxi Driver all mashed together.

^ So many films are influenced by this movie. The last shootout is 90% Alien.
Watching Serpico now, this may be Pacino's best acting (apologies to The Godfather). It's up there, for sure. From the same "New Hollywood" of the '70s, and another must see for any film buff. Director Sidney Lumet captures some amazing footage.

yes, that's a risk... i usually find i can let a series go without too much pain.
I loved the first three seasons of The Man in the High Castle (after the PK Dick book) - but the emotional centre of the film Takagumi, was lost in the fourth season as the actor was cast in something else. I dropped it on the second episode...

All The President's Men
Great film making. For one thing, every single frame is a screenshot...
Well, technically that's true of any film. I meant a great screenshot.

Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones in Double Jeopardy (1999). A really good mystery. The end of the second act is a pure Blade Runner ripoff. The third act is Kill Bill 2.
Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman in High Crimes (2002). A lesser mystery. Still really good, Ashley Judd is a good actress.

The greatest reveal in cinematic history. Godzilla emerges from the ground in Mothra (1961, Toho Studios)...

The soundtrack to this film is the most ominous and tragic thing you will ever hear.

Godzilla vs. Mothra, a great musical score...

The greatest comedy film of all time. Featuring sophisticated joke setups like...
gestures out the window "One day lad, all this will be yours."
"What, the curtains?"

Blade Runner (Final Cut, 2007, directed by Ridley Scott). All the versions are good, but the sound and video remaster for this version is on par with the production of any recent release. The original US cinema release was in June of 1982. I saw it in a theater when it came out. Voice overs, no unicorn dream, happy ending with footage from The Shining. Very... slow... Final Cut is also very, very slow but much better.
My favorite film. Harrison Ford derp face for the win.
So many quotes. "Wake up! Time to die."
That last scrot is right before Deckard physically and emotionally abuses Rachel into loving him, not the film's best moment.

A top 5 Godzilla movie, maybe the best but I'll rank it at #3 in the Toho filmography. 1965, Invasion of Atsro-Monster...

Seem They're making another Godzilla vs Kong flick. C'mon, give us something new. Like Godzilla vs Derry (that Irish dad who chases bats in kitchens) or something.

My oldest is excited to see it; I told her to go online and watch the original.
Putting on the Kong suit and fighting the guy in the Godzilla suit while trashing a scale model city must have been two of the best stunt jobs ever.

^ And let's not forget this epic scene...

That said, the trailer apparently also shows Mechagodzilla and the monsters are huge. This could be a stupidly fun film, fingers crossed.

Kong body-checking 'zilla off of a warship, whos doesn't want to see that?!!
I haven't watched the Gidorah remake yet, it looks impressively stupid...

Cool! Now I've seen both movies. ;0 At lease the good parts.

King of Monsters is ok; kind of drag out the climactic scene. Rodan is pretty kick ass.
Not like we watch Godzilla for the cinematic art.

Speaking of cinematic art, please vote for which of these potential masterpieces I should watch first;
Karate-Robo Zaborgar or Snake Outta Compton
Offline
^ Um, Snake Outta Compton sounds almost infinitely more interesting, but maybe the other one has better production value?
Anyhow, I wouldn't give too much about IMDB's ranking.

Tough call. Karate movie seems a bit cliche, but Snake out of Compton might be dumb enough to be funny.
Maybe toss a coin, then say "to hell with both" and go for a bike ride.

Other than the music, the horrible dialog and the bad dubbing, it's the only thing I watch it for.
