The mpv media player recently released version 0.33.0. BunsenLabs ships the latest available release for Lithium users in the BunsenLabs buster-backports repository. As Debian itself does not update for Lithium and therefore buster, this allows users to enjoy the latest features and fixes. As a major change in the handling of BL buster-backports, it is now also required to have the regular Debian buster-backports repository enabled as mpv requires dependencies that are not part of Debian Buster itself.
In order to activate the Debian buster-backports repository, follow the official instructions https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/. In order to activate the BunsenLabs buster-backports repository, add APT repositories as described here https://www.bunsenlabs.org/repositories.html. Backports enablement is also part of the BunsenLabs welcome screen right after install, so you may not have to do anything if you went that route. After meeting these prerequisites, do
sudo apt update
sudo apt install -t buster-backports mpv
in order to install or update mpv to v0.33.0.
Note that when you upgrade, there may be issues with bl-media-player if mpv's behaviour has changed, although changes since 0.32 are minimal, so this is unlikely to happen.
Per aspera ad astra.

^ Nice instructions, everything looks good.
rachel@TyrellCorp:~$ apt-cache policy mpv
mpv:
Installed: 1:0.33.0
Candidate: 1:0.33.0
Version table:
*** 1:0.33.0 100
100 http://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/debian buster-backports/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
0.29.1-1 500
500 https://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 Packages
And SMPlayer is behaving nicely with it.
