Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Movies?  The two best ever made I think are The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension, and The Big Lebowksi.

The latest edition of World Watch One by the Banzai Institute is August 2020: http://www.figmentfly.com/bb/bbindex.shtml

TBL may be the best movie ever made.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

MIcrosoft is launching .NET (core) 5 and has a lot of nice c# and f# features. As c# is now supported on all important platforms (win, mac, linux and lots of serverless(TM) stuff in the clouds) and a very nice language (nicer than Java, anyway) I'm considering working on adding C# to my expert level(tm) programming language portfolio, which hitherto consisted only of C + Python, my C++ being stuck on the C++99 levels of Qt 4 from 2010 (a DECADE away). Java is horrible so c# seems the way to go for a nice object-oriented language.

https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/a … g-net-5-0/

As a skill, the value proposition (unified .net across a lot of platforms) seems more valuable in the job market than whatever golang and rust promise.

I'll fiddle with c# over the holidays I think!

My favorite Sean Connery movie was From Russia, With Love. It defined James Bond for me.

Two non-Bond standouts for me, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I know it's a crap film but it's one of those campy films that I love, and it's one of Connerey's last.

Finding Forrester (2000, directed by Gus Van Sant). This is a must-see, feel-good drama. PUNCH THE KEYS! You're the man now, dog!!!

This article contains a math lesson, and later on a nice editable python script for modelling COVID-19 contagious spread which you can run in page.  Delete browser cookies if it tells you you've exceeded number of allowable articles.

https://lists.webkit.org/pipermail/webk … 31604.html

Starting January 4, 2021, Google will block all sign-ins to Google accounts from embedded browser frameworks

This is really bad. Konqueror, Epiphany, Midori, perhaps someday Palemoon, elinks, links2, lynx, even if they did work with Google stuff before, they'll be trying to block them now.

It's another of those Told-You-So moments for me...
In 2007, a Google account seemed like the perfect alternative to an ad-ridden Yahoo account.
In 2014, it was clear that I am the product, I have to bite the bullet and change to something else.
I pity those that still haven't gotten to that insight - biting that bullet is getting harder every day...

Just learned about this unique individual: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigori_Perelman

Awards
    ...
    Fields Medal (2006), declined
    Millennium Prize (2010), declined
    ...

You know when you've made it when you just reject the most prestigious awards in your field and move on...
