Re: covid-19 virus

Just curious how everyone is doing right now. Where I live, unemployment is through the roof, business are failing all over the place since most people can't afford anything due to the unemployment. Occasionally weirdos will yell and bitch at people who choose to wear masks in public. Honestly, I feel if things continue to trend the way they have been, I look for things to get a little scary in my neck of the woods.

I was furloughed for eight weeks, then when that time elapsed, they extended my furlough another eight weeks. I can't get through to the unemployment department to update my info, so I am looking for some interim work nearby. Other than that, I am just bored to tears at home all the time. I actually live way out in the boonies, so it's not like this place was ever bustling with social activity.

We actually stocked up on some food and paid our bills up with our stimulus check, so we are ok for the moment, but I worry constantly about the state of my job. If the furlough will be extended again, or if I will just be let go altogether.

I hope everyone else is doing well, and hunkered down in your respective bunkers.

Re: covid-19 virus

^ I feel for you.
I wonder where you are - in many countries the worst restrictions have been lifted.
Same here in Finland. It was never full lockdown, politics calls it the "hybrid model" and is proud as hell that for once we're doing much better than our hip swedish neighbours.
I don't know any people that have/had the disease. One friend said he was sure he and his child had it, but they never got tested. They both had mild symptoms and are over it, whatever it was.
I don't know of any people that have suffered economically, either.
But that doesn't mean there aren't any. The numbers are clear, Finland is affected by Covid19 both directly and economically, especially the capital region where I live.

Schools re-opened almost a month ago (mind you they're closed again now because of regular summer holidays), which marked the lifting of many restrictions.
One thing annoys me: some people seem to think that this means that "Corona is over". That's dangerous and might come to bite us (and most countries that are lifting restrictions) in the arse (called "2nd wave").

Re: covid-19 virus

I am pretty enraged about how this is being handled in Germany, particularly the area I'm currently in (huge differences because of federalism and municipal self-government rules).

Last week, I checked pretty much all the Corona boxes except fever and cough (sore throat, running nose, feeling groggy, difficulties breathing/aches somewhere in the lungs). That was Wednesday morning. So I tried calling up the hotline where I could get myself checked; they told me I wasn't to present to the emergency room because my symptoms were not "acute" enough (yes, I wasn't half dead yet) and had to ring up any random physician, who then could check me and get me a lab test. Well, it was Wednesday when many physicians are closed or have short hours and no openings at all. And it was wednesday before Corpus Christi holiday, so I called 4 different practices and all were on vacation, and their named substitutes were also on holiday. Great, so no appointment on Wednesday. Thursday, holiday, everything closed, feeling better alreacy but hell I'd like to get myself checked, if not for myself then out of respect for others! So I call again on Friday, feeling much better already but still have something in my lungs, again, BRIDGE DAY between holiday and the weekend, the only physician I could reach told me to GTFO because he was there only by accident and couldn't get a lab test today anyway. So I'm sitting here, slight breathing difficulties remaining (could be some fucking cold/bronchitis but how the hell should I know), not being acutely sick, hoping to get a test done on Monday, and if not for Corona, for any other sickness I could have (again, how the hell should I know).

I never had much trust in the health system here, it's inefficient, no information online, you have to call everybody, there are NO extra resources remaining ("covid19 is over"-attitude), and you're always fucked by waiting times unless you're half dead, get an appointment half a year in advance, be a bigwit or some illegal refugee migrant. For this, out of solidarity, I'm paying the highest public insurance premiums (top tax bracket, thanks socialist government, top state quota in Western Europe with nothing to show for it)...I've long considered switching to private insurance, you get preferred treatment not at necessarily cheaper prices, but at that point, you're paying for the service. What a shit show.

Re: covid-19 virus

Don't give up now, twoion! Bad luck (and yes, shitty service) with the middle-of-the-week holiday.
Have you tried again today?

Re: covid-19 virus

I am sorry to hear that, twoion. I am fortunate that none of us in my household have been sick. I do struggle with horrendous allergies, though (and I live in literally the worst place on Earth you could live for allergies). Other than that, I can't complain, except for the job situation. Right now I'm good, but it is a temporary situation, for better or for worse.

Re: covid-19 virus

The States are opening up and, shocker, cases are breaking out. Arizona, Texas, Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina all have hot spots. So does my home state of South Carolina, both Myrtle Beach and Greenville. So much for the virus being squelched by warm weather, those are all hot-as-hell southern states right now, we're a week away from the first week of summer.

Chin up, my friend. Once your symptoms have subsided, try to get yourself into a perpetual state of detox. High cardio plus high perspiration and a lot of hydration. I got dengue fever after a job in a forest/jungle many years ago. It was a bad bout - blood platelet count got dangerously low and I needed a transfusion. Discharged from hospital in a bit over a week, but took months to regain full fitness. You know that that ball-of-pressure-around-your-head feeling, the same when you've got a bad head cold? I had that for months. Affected my job, which isn't even remotely intellectual (does require some concentration, but so does crossing a street) and I couldn't even do my favourite sport/hobbies. What got me back to shape was swimming, sauna and a lot of fruit. Three times a week. Rest days are equally important. Proper meals. No alcohol (I did smoke a bit though) apart from the occasional glass of wine. Try to see a good nutritionist and get some advice. Works better than most people realize. Also try to get tested for allergies. Seems trivial, but many of us go about our lives with small allergies to certain substances in our diet, and it usually gets in the way when recovering from something severe. So, yeah. Like I said, take it on the chin, tell yourself, "at least it's not meningitis", and soldier on. You'll win. It's only corona. That shit beer can't even intoxicate a gerbil.

Re: covid-19 virus

Two thumbs up to glitter's post!

Will make a note as dengue is a high concern here.
Thank you glittersloth.

EDIT:

Everyone in the world will have after-effects from this.  We must all do whatever we can to recover our optimum health the best way we can.

Re: covid-19 virus

Well.  To say I am angry is an understatement.

Monday we had two people released early from quarantine without any testing so they could attend a funeral.  It just so happens they have tested positive for Covid at least 350 people are now in isolation awaiting testing.

What also becomes apparent there are quite a huge number of people from overseas who also have been released early with out testing.....how many of these are infected? How many have they been in contact with.

If we have another outbreak here NZ is done.

Someones head needs to roll.  So goddamn irresponsible. I am truly pissed off.

For those of you who didn't know, we were 100% covid free.  Were.

Re: covid-19 virus

I was so damn happy to hear that NZ was Covid-19 free!

And now this ... IMHO:

ANY PEOPLE being released from quarantine "early" without being tested = a criminal action buy whoever authorized their release.

And the people who released them should be charged with a criminal act ... and if anyone dies ... !

Yeah, for a weekend. Tourists, they're your bread and butter, aren't they?

Get it through your heads, everybody, this virus is going to hang around for a long, long while.

Re: covid-19 virus

South Carolina is not looking good right now, we're a hot spot along with Florida and North Carolina (and Arizona and Texas, warm weather ain't killin' this bug)...

https://scdhec.gov/sites/default/files/ … 6.2020.png

That graph only goes to the 15th, we had our highest case spike so far just today. The alarming bit, these cases are all at least a week old, the newest data won't be in for another week. I'm also going to guess that the pattern of dips is because of Sundays, where people in this pretty religious state might not go to the hospital even if they were testing that day.
