Looks like Charleston dodged the bullet. Let's keep fingers crossed for the launch today.

Did they scrub it with "the 99.⁴⁴/¹⁰⁰ pure used in hospitals" Ivory soap?

I remember Ivory soap giving me rashes.
Must have been something in that 0.⁵⁶/¹⁰% that got me.

seriously: Good luck Charleston and on Saturday too.

Re: Good Luck Charleston - Storm Season Starts Early This Year

I live in the north end of downtown Charleston.

Man, this hurricane/tropical storm shit is all hype. Yes, last weekend we had a day where 3 inches of rain fell in less than two hours, and nothing was draining because we are at sea-level. So cars were submerged to the bonnet going through intersections and nobody stopped for a red light, or you'd be stopped for days.

The next day everything was back to normal. It's bullshit. When we get a real hurricane, you'll know it. Until then, the city has been reinforcing the seawall. Rising sea-levels is the issue, not a random storm.

Weather on the US East Coast is one of the biggest news scams out there. They hype it and hype it some more. We were supposed to get rain all day today according to yesterdays forecast. This morning, they changed it to showers likely this afternoon. We had thunderheads all day, but not a drop of rain. It's been dry so far tonight as well. Weather science is a joke, there are too many variables and our computer models are primitive in comparison. 18 spaghetti tracks and then the storm goes somewhere else.

But if you're on a Florida beach during tourist season, the local weather will describe 30mph wind gusts that will sand-blast your skin off as "breezy".

Then there's a storm. That's when it gets more serious. In general, the accuracy for weather reporting these days is about 4 hours in advance.

Look, no rain in the area and the storm track, as always recently, is pushing north...

Zoom out.

We might be in for some weather, but who knows. That could easily keep pushing east, or west, or dump on N. Florida and Georgia and dry up. It's spring, cold fronts from the north are going to have an effect. Way too early to predict anything.

Ha! The current radar prediction is for the whole storm to dissipate in a few hours. Four hour prediction, let's see if they can even be that accurate. Current prediction is about one inch of rain in the morning. We eat that for breakfast.

Hurricane last year, full evacuation, no rain.

Hurricane the year before, full evacuation, no rain.

Hurricane the year before, partial evacuation, some rain, no damage.

100 Year Flood the same year, no evacuation, flooding up the wahoo, major damage, city restored in 48 hours.

You have to go back to 1989 for a real Charleston weather event...

-edit- To be fair, the suburbs did have wind damage that caused extensive power outages in those last storms. One of the advantages of living downtown, that's where the police and ambulances are, power is essential. I lost power 3 times, for a total of 45 seconds. I live 2 blocks from a police station and one mile from a fire station.

Re: Good Luck Charleston - Storm Season Starts Early This Year

I've spent some time in Charleston and it's a grand old city. Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning it looked like it might be a big rain event.  Luckily, it didn't happen, like I said in post #2. Here's to Charleston.

Thanks Al. Watch, tomorrow the city will get annihilated with weather out of pure spite for my insolence. That's how they do you in the south, it's all passive-aggressive.

Bless your little heart.

So, it was a riot instead of a hurricane. My bad, Charleston.
