Concert List

I was watching STEVEN WILSON Hand Cannot Erase, Live at The Wiltern, Los Angeles, CA 2015

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLfhlwGVV1c

And it made me think of other concerts I've seen, so starting a thread to share concert lists.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Hollywood Sportatorium, Hollywood, FL - 1973

Yes - Tomato tour - Hollywood Sportatorium, Hollywood, FL - 1979

Yes - 90125 - Hollywood Sportatorium, Hollywood, FL - 1984 <-- best concert ever.

The Pretenders - Learning to Crawl - Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO - 1984

Roger Waters - The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking tour - Hollywood Sportatorium, Hollywood, FL - 1985

INXS - Listen Like Thieves Tour - Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison, CO - 1986

The year I shattered my ankle in a motorcycle wreck;

Way up in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado trying to ride the last of the snow for that year. Big tree jumped in front of me. But I digress.

Re: Concert List

Let's allow this thread for a bit before finally merging it with 'What Are You Listening To Now'.

I think I read in the news that Zappa's last live tour from 1988 was out. Let's see if I can find it.

Well, that was easy...

Delusions of grandeur and such...

Cardiacs
I wrote about them before... never actually saw them, but have been listening to this album up and down for years. I wish I'd been woke enough back then to actually go see them live.

Here's a sort of live recording of an old farts get-together decades later - not bad at all!

My attempts at levity are, 1, not funny, apparently, and 2, totally lost on you.

Finnish humour...

"Yesterday marked 21 years since I arrived in Finland."
"Did you celebrate with a beer and a sausage?"
"No. I've become Finnish. I told no one. I sat in the dark in silence and thought about herrings."
"That's the spirit."

Also, al's response is an homage to the classic Bugs Bunny "shut up shuttin' up" sketch...

Re: Concert List

I saw Pink Floyd at the Rhode Island Civic Center in Providence, 1986, I think it was. very early in the American leg of that tour, and in an indoor arena that only sat about 10,000, not the 40-60,000 seat football arenas they they played for the majority of that tour. It's basically the Pulse show, so I'll post that. This show was in 1994...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImlFp6QOZRU

Best show I've ever heard. Peter Gabriel 'So' tour was second, a whole bunch of concert and club shows could get third. Talking Heads, early Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Uhuru, an amazing show at a nightclub in Boston by The Residents ft. Snakefinger, Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, James Taylor, Chrissie Hynde, The B-52s.

I missed The Police at the Ratskellar in Kenmore Square, Boston, 1978 or so. I could have gone to the Simon and Garfunkle reunion concert, "Concert In Central Park" but decided that one among a half-million drunks in Central Park in the late eighties was not somewhere I wanted to be to hear old, mostly sappy songs. My friends got back to Boston fine, I would have ended up on a missing persons report.

Me in the eighties...

"I don't get it... we're popping a new beer every twenty minutes, doing a tequila shot every 30 minutes, smoking weed every 15 minutes and hauling a line of coke every 10, why don't we just do 3 of those in 5 minutes and wait an hour?"

Five minutes later, all four of us are face down on the floor with one groaning "fuck you, hhh".

Exact concert or some concert of the same band? Any concert? Same era? Same venue?
Appretiation of a good live band does not count?
It's not that simple, really.

I've been to a few concerts in my live - most of them in my earlier days. I don't think even one exact same concert is up on youtube.
Or is all this more about bragging than sharing music?

Simple as it can be, elaborate as desired, it's all good, really.
But this thread is so off the rails it should be moved to Topics Going Nowhere.

Over here we have death gravel.
Sand/gravel is spread on side-walks and bicycle lanes in winter to reduce the likelihood of people slipping and hurting themselves. When, in spring, the snow and ice melts this gravel 'transubstantiates' into death gravel -- at least from the point of view of bicyclists.

Most of that evil gravel has been swept up now and the studded winter tires are stored, waiting for the next winter season.

Music? Concerts?
I have a question about the list in the first post.
Surely those are not all the concerts you have been to?

What I hear you saying is you doubt that's the correct and complete list of concerts I have gone to. Why should it not be?

Nicely played Airplane burn!

Why is this thread so difficult? It was me with the 'shut up, Al' joke that went wrong. My bad.

To be clear, this Forum is in "Off Topic", so you can say nearly anything you want up to the point where we collectively decide that you're a sociopath. I'm peaking at a 9 out of 10 ATM but it's starting to drop again. Just have fun!

Certainly not moving it to TGN, I think it's a useful secondary thread to "What Are You Listening To Now?"

We could use it to separate live and live-in-studio recordings from studio ones. Doesn't matter if you saw the show or not, if it's live, post it here.

Re: Concert List

^ Yes, just a suggestion on my part for moving forward.

And we can include comedy, maybe?

A Finnish one-liner...

"My wife's started smoking in bed. Not cigarettes, fish."

You Know You've Been In Finland Too Long, When...

You meticulously manage your plastic bag collection.
You don't think twice about putting wet dishes in the cupboard.
Silence is fun.
Your native language has seriously deteriorated. Now you "eat medicine", "open the television", and "close the lights off".
After giving presentations, you stop asking "Are there any questions?"
You accept alcohol as a food group.
You no longer eat mashed potatoes - you eat smashed potatoes.
You understand why the Finnish language has no future tense.
You know that "one beer" means "let's get pissed."
You've become lactose intolerant.

Joke's on the Americans, and I only need one, from the comedians from Canada...

What you call white American person with PhD in physics and math? Stupid American!!!

ohnonot posting mainly to take a shot at hhh. And a minor shot at me 'cause, well he's here anyway.
I still respect you, ohnonot.

Martin casting suspicion on the only list in the thread, or whatever that was. Hard for me to parse being a mild, high functioning autistic savant.
Would like to know you better, Martin.

Re: Concert List

Concert nostalgia.  I saw Spirit of the West first in September 1987 in Winnipeg. Subsequently several more times. Lead singer John Mann died of early onset Alzheimer's in Nov 2019 in his late 50s. This is a good song: Home For A Rest, and it's not about dying, it's about partying it up.

"You'll have to excuse me, I'm not at my best
I've been gone for a month, and been drunk since I left."

The band Great Big Sea, from the opposite side of Canada (Newfoundland) has a similar vibe. Ordinary Day.  Seen them 4 or 5 times, and most recently solo tour with the former lead singer, Alan Doyle.

I like music that makes me want to jump around (I can't dance), kiss the girls and drink too much.

I keep forgetting what gaslighting is, but I'll own it. What the hell are we doing again?

eight.bit.al wrote:

Well then, I can just set everything right again if I can post footage of The Residents on the mid-eighties tour the year I saw them in Boston. Will the DeLorean start?

This isn't it, it isn't the right stage show or set list, but it's the same artistic idiocy vibe and will serve...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mabzD5naeG8

And I hope that's this thread saved, because that concert is amazing, and I saw one by them that was even better.

Re: Concert List

Mine would be a short list. I stopped going to big concerts back in the 80s, similar to how I stopped going to big sporting events. Didn't wanna pay the $$ anymore. I think I've been to only about 5 of what I'd call "major" concerts. Free concerts at the park, things like that, different story.

Last big concert I went to: Well, my then-girlfriend and I were huge fans of the group known as Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. We went to see them at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, back around the mid 1980s. It was the best time I've ever had at a concert. I remember the audience being up singing and dancing during most of the show. Seemed like magic that night.

Re: Concert List

I (used to) go to a lot of concerts, so I'm not going to post a list either, especially as most of them are not well known.

Instead, I'm going to post the last concert I went to: Jeffrey Lewis in February 2020. More than a year with no live music...

Have seen SCI, Flaming lips, Alman Brothers once, so on.  Can't remember half of it.
