USB audio card experience?

Hey guys,

I have an intel NUC and am using the headphone out to plug into some powered Bose bookshelf speakers. A lot of noise comes out of this...I have to crank pulse to 100% and turn up the audio itself to be loud to the point where I hear interference from the CPU doing computations.

My question is, does anyone have experience with USB audio cards? I'm planning to use an eGPU (I have a Razer Core V2) and was considering using one of its USB ports for a soundblaster or something like that. Would this work? Anyone have feedback that has actually used an external USB sound card?

Re: USB audio card experience?

Using one with win7 (behringer xenix control 1),  could test with Debian if you tell me what exactly to test.

Edit: quick test staring 'sudo dmesg' and pnmixer

Re: USB audio card experience?

Thanks! What are your thoughts in general with this vs just using the headphone out on the computer itself? Is it worth the expense?

I've been reading much to suggest this is a minimal investment with a likely worthwhile payoff, so I may as well just pull the trigger and order one.

Re: USB audio card experience?

Well, if you get noisy/screetchy output, then it is certainly worth the investment, I wouldn't spend more than 20 euros myself thought. p.s. The usual first check is if the amps and the computer are on the same electricity/fuse.

Re: USB audio card experience?

I'm using a laptop or an intel NUC, so not a lot of space inside = I am not surprised I'm having noisy output smile Screw it, I'll get an external card. Thanks!

...now to research which one to get...
