XFCE on Ubuntu on WSL working very well! One-click startup and shutdown, pulse audio, and since it's not virtualized, it opens nearly instantaneously.

I was hoping for a much less time consuming compile/build for the latest version of freecad. Now 3 and half hours in after compiling, building deps and finally now compiling freecad, i could be here for days, i just dont know! The freecad git is nearly 700 MB!!! Im going to test native vs the appimage for this. I have a feeling native will be a lot better but for ease of installation the appimage may win.

I booted up an install I haven't looked at for a while, and thought it looked quite good! This is a BL/Openbox/Conky/Tint2 configuration on top of Mint Sarah, which at the time was the only distro that ran OOTB on my new nvidia optimus laptop.
