No problem - cleaned them up a bit - this laptop has a separate keypad so I can use that for tiling.

Latest Ubuntu, now with gnome (after some tweaking)
VirtualBox_ubuntu_21_10_2017_19_12_11.th.png
Really slow in virtualbox. Still not sure how to even use that desktop.

Well! It's a GNOME afterall, is a lot hungry regarding RAM eats and 1.95GB is too little to move fast.
brontosaurusrex, why not give a try on a real HDD/PC? maybe have more hungry on a raw system smile

I can't see anything really useful to waste time with that and I kinda expect useful system even in virtualbox.

1.95GB is too little to move fast

I can't see any swapping.

Maybe it just starts once Mozilla Firefox or other apps opens?

How about to test other DE's instead of GNOME if the latter does not meets your needs.

I used to like a lot GNOME around 2011/13 but later many things changed and #! show me the other side of Linux smile

As i recalls hhh or H_o_a_s did some success tweaks with GNOME.

Re: October 2017 Screenshot Thread

^Thanks, xfce4-panel and conky margin settings make that pretty easy. So do the margin settings for openbox, easy peasy.

Great looking image viewer!

Re: October 2017 Screenshot Thread

I've edited the first post of this monthly thread so that scrot.moe is highlighted as the preferred thumbnail method on these forums. The deleted content is here...

Other image hosts commonly used include...

imgur.com:

Avoid the large thumbnail www.imgur.com code, use the "medium" link thumbnail.  An example of the code:

[url=http://imgur.com/your_image_code][img]http://i.imgur.com/your_image_codem.jpg[/img][/url]

Notice the m in your_image_codem.jpg in the IMG code block

Users have been using www.postimage.org in the past as well which does a nice job and is Multilingual.  Upload your image to the site and grab the Thumbnail for Forums code.

Example BB-code from imgbox.com:

[URL=http://imgbox.com/xxxxxx][IMG]http://t.imgbox.com/xxxxxx.jpg[/IMG][/URL]

[url=https://scrot.moe/image/WTH3][img]https://cdn.scrot.moe/images/2016/12/01/screenFetch-2016-12-01_21-20-07.th.png[/img][/url]
                   ^ fullsize image                ^ thumbnail

Here is a generic piece of code if you need to create your own thumbnail:

[url=http://link.to.your.fullsized.image][img]http://link.to.your.thumbnail.image[/img][/url]

If anyone thinks this information is important, please post and we'll open a side thread. Thanks, and keep scrotting.

I loved GNOME under jessie, but GNOME in stretch was horrible to customize 6 months ago. It's probably better now, but gnome-shell is not something to run as an alternative to Openbox, it takes over. You can run Openbox as the WM, but your not going to be able to remove mutter, gnome-session, gnome-settings-daemon, gdm3 (especially), so you might as well just run GNOME at that point.

And now I might try and install it, for giggles.

Dobbie, great scrots!

Using Helium dist-upgraded from Hydrogen, I just ran...

sudo apt install gnome-core gnome-tweak-tool --no-install-recommends

... set gdm3 as the DM, rebooted, and changed my theme. Yes the desktop is using 20% of my RAM at idle as opposed to 10% or less, but everything is integrated, so I'm curious to see how that resource usage affects me regarding my computer usage.
