Hmm yeah. I guess I'm a bit .Xresources illiterate. I had done

URxvt.font: xft:Liberation Sans:size=9

But for some reason it didn't like it. Gone back to:

URxvt.font: xft:Monospace:size=11

@hhh, beautiful colors imo, and a really nice looking desktop!

Messing with awesomewm.  Pretty simple config.  New version of awesome is awesome!  Couple of shots of it with Arch.

Not so clean, but with Compton, transparency was fairly simple...

I think the new version of awesome has really cleaned up the LUA so it is much easier to deal with.

bunsen-dev using Bunsen-Blackish-remix as the theme. Running xfce4-panel instead of tint2, xfce4-volumed backported from Ubuntu Xenial to provide sound-volume notifications w/out using pnmixer in the panel, and xfce4-notifyd up-ported (sp?) from jessie to provide graceful fade-outs with compton and a window border-radius of 0 (the stretch version briefly leaves an ugly drop-shadow and requires a 1px border-radius).

Wow no shot of my goto this month!  VSIDO blinged to the best of my abilities.

VSIDO, Fluxbox, Conky, (yep that Arclance weather script is still totally functional, and hasn't been updated since circa 2012?) Tint2, and I'm not sure why I was listening to music with SMplayer as I have GMusicBrowser still as my favorite for audio!

^The openbox-menu as a submenu of the static menu? Yep, looks good. I tried as a replacement to the static menu but the main menus had no icons.

Generally it's possible to use it without lxmenu-data (e.g.: using applications.menu instead of lxde-applications.menu). It'd be nice to have icons also in the main menu. Actually I read somewhere that it's possible to have a static openbox-menu with icons but cannot remember seeing one.

Hmmm, yes, there seem to be several possibilities:

https://packages.debian.org/search?sear … e&arch=any

The files in /etc/xdg/menus can be used with openbox-menu, here is the lxlauncher version with it's rather twee "Internet", "Work", "Learn" & "Play" categories:

2017-10-08-002700_1920x1080_scrot.th.png

The scrot also shows Helium-dev booted with OpenRC (and sysvinit), just like Slackware glasses

EDIT: Ha! Just copied over my Alpine Linux OpenRC init script to save and reset the backlight on reboot and it works under sysvinit in Helium-dev.

EDIT2: bl-exit works with OpenRC, how cool is that?

BunsenLabs Helium-dev on AMD:

2017-10-08-101451_1366x768_scrot.th.png

The init system in place is pure OpenRC — neither sysvinit or systemd are used to boot the box.

This is only possible with the version of OpenRC in Debian buster & sid but I have backported it to jessie & stretch:

Yep, debian-menu.menu, gnome-applications.menu, etc. I have to say that I'm a bit surprised though that the package itself does not care about creating a menu structure (or maybe I'm missing something here). In the end it's all about having icons then (as there were already dynamic menus before, e.g. the debian menu, which is also a dynamic menu (and it'd be useful to have in the main menu instead of "Applications" the next submenu as panel similar to the video aitor posted:  http://gnuinos.org/openbox-menu3.mpg  If I understand it correctly, this configuration has two parts: openbox-menu and the part aitor mentioned - a GUI for the package).
