^I cannot recommend enough this SF writer.

And if you like him, then you will definitely like (sadly: late) Ian M. Banks, and his extraordinary SF books. Especially, so called 'the Culture novels' books.

Right now I'm reading BL forum  tongue

Cool.
I like to read... Sci-Fi (Heinlein, Asimov, Bradbury, Sheckley) but I do need to take a break now and then for others.

yes, after i read the complete opus of iain m. banks, and realized there will be no more, a. reynolds has at least partly filled that gap...

do we actually have a clear rule about this? mine's 261x400 and 5kB. It's easy to post a 300x300 thumbnail that is much larger in file size.

I read a lot of digital magazines.  I've cut back on my subscriptions to allow some time to read books.  I'm not a fan of SciFi or fiction in general.  I read a lot of Stephen King books when I was younger.  I still remember reading The Shining late at night and hearing strange noises.

You are reading my mind! Except that, while ago, I start reading Reynolds in between two Banks books ... eagerly waiting for Banks to publish its next one. smile

Now, I cannot wait for next Reynolds book to buy here, and I'm trying to find another writer who would fill the gap. So far, I tried McDevitt, and it is OK, but not exactly like former two  sad  @ohnonot: any suggestion?

NB. Balantyne is quite interesting and novel ... especially its "Twisted Metal" book.

The recommendation posted at the start of the monthly screenshot threads is 250x250

It's not so much about rules per se; forum members should always consider those with capped and/or slow connections.

That's fine then. I just checked the dimensions, I'd have to download the image to see the file size.

Maybe post the file size underneath if the image is larger so we're not tempted to remove it?

Re: What are you reading right now?

Well when we're going even down to 250px...
I'll keep it in mind.
I was lucky that this particular one was so small.
I usually take pains to reduce file size, not image size.

Imbecil, i'll think of something when I get home!

I've been reading a few Alastair Reynolds books as well. I just finished his earlier books, Century Rain, and I'm working through "Pushing Ice". I gotta say I'm not a HUGE fan of some of his writing style... Pushing Ice is a bit odd... but I like how he incorporates specks of "hard" science into the stories.  I'll probably be reading Revelation Space next.

I listen to audio books through Audible, so sometimes it makes really detailed story lines a tad harder to follow especially when I'm multi tasking lol..

sure.
"Accidentally" Got Drunk.<= 250px! big_smile

Gwyneth Jones: Spirit or The Princess of Bois Dormant

that was abso-effing-lutely crazy fantastic.

i love it when authors have the vision to totally drown themselves in the worlds they create (hmmm, that came out wrong...) whilst still remaining - hmmm again - "credible"?
i haven't seen that anywhere but in franz kafka, or the lord of the rings, but it seems that the genre sci-fi most generously lends itself to it.
i do like the science, too. have you ever read how iain m. banks describes a spaceship?  yikes
have you read stanislaw lem's eden? how he describes how utterly alien aliens are. how lost the human astronauts are with their preconceptions.

drm free .epubs??  (or .mobi. htmlzipped html txt)  FadedPage has a few, and hoping on more.

Technically, totally copyright free for Canadians.  Working on Silent Spring (I helped proof) by Rachel Carson and the Lovecraft books.  Canada is still life plus 50 as opposed to life plus 70 for Europe, etc.

I just finished A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. I have started The Silmarillion by J. R. R. Tolkein, but I'm having trouble getting into it.

Re: What are you reading right now?

^ Give it time. It starts out slow but imo it was Tolkien's best work. Reading the entire thing will really give you perspective on the trilogy. For instance, Galadriel was positively ancient coming from the first age. It is more a collection of short stories given its scope and breadth than a coherent whole like the trilogy was.
