a warm salute to everyone

I still remember those days, when I had no distro I could call "home". I was roaming in the night, feeling like I was not comfortable with the way LXDE handled my hotkeys, and trying to configure the thing to make xfce more smooth.
Life was difficult, and you can't even complain after a couple of beers with a stranger in a bar.

When there is much, way too much stuff, is difficult to make order. It's like painting the furniture you deep inside just want to throw off the window.

Then, 5 years ago, I discovered #!, a distro where people seemed to share what furniture should be set on fire, and how to beautifully paint what was left.
And the room was free for me to dance.

Since then I always stick with it, and as soon as the first BL was out, I jumped on the train.

I register just now to share maybe some configs and to say a great thanks to all those who make BL such a smooth distro.

Have a nice day

Re: a warm salute to everyone

Welcome to the forum!

This is probably one of the most heart-squeezing Introductions I ever read - especially when you get to the "Life was difficult, and you can't even complain after a couple of beers with a stranger in a bar"-part I really had that "been there, done that" feeling and almost had to wash a teardrop from my eyes.

Re: a warm salute to everyone

I guess I've been feeling the same way since I've started with Linux.
Gave up on CrunchBang and o BL once... I guess just like so many, I lacked advice from the stranger at a bar.

Anyway, thanks for expressing the way I feel.

Be very welcome, I have just come in myself.

I plan to do that.

Re: a warm salute to everyone

Let us know how it goes, I'm interested.

Honestly I tried to talk to people, but at the time I was living in Australia (in a van, with no money, and blabla, another story), and no one seemed to know what even linux was.

Just to say, I got a job there as phone repairer and had a talk with the sys-admin of the society. In an unformal moment, just to chit chat, I asked "why do you use windows for your server?" and he made the face of someone both offended and surprised by a non-existent yet possibly insulting remark. I feared his eyebrow could have teared his skin apart if he just raised it a mm more.
Sys-admins.

At least here in Europe people understand that you talk about an operating system, and many even use it. Aw, so easier.

If I'll ever manage or own a bar, it would be open-source friendly, we really need that!

Re: a warm salute to everyone

Yea, If I had the funds I'll love to open a "Linux Cyber Cafe" and put in systems with OpenBox with limited options in the menu for customers, let's face it most will want: a web browser, a chat client and access to a printer or file manager to copy saved stuff to a usb device.

I can see a menu entry now:

Re: a warm salute to everyone

Yeah, let me say welcome back as well. Slowly the remaining old timers are showing up one by one. Nice analogy there in your intro. See you round, devnull.

Thanks for signing up again ( same should go to omns who I just saw has just returned as well).
