Netinstall and BunsenLabs on Sid

Hi,

I tried to install BL on SID using the net install script and got the below errors.

Any pointers on what to do?  Tried to comment out those packages, and it just resulted in more broken packages.

My sources.list

deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free
#deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ unstable main contrib non-free

Output from the net install

Package xfce4-volumed is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Package gstreamer0.10-plugins-good is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Package gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

Package fonts-droid is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
However the following packages replace it:
  fonts-droid-fallback

Package gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'fonts-droid' has no installation candidate
E: Package 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-good' has no installation candidate
E: Package 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad' has no installation candidate
E: Package 'gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly' has no installation candidate
E: Package 'xfce4-volumed' has no installation candidate

There was a problem installing some packages.
There may be some information in /home/user/.cache/bunsen-netinstall-logs/install.log.
You might want to exit the script, comment out packages causing problems
in pkgs-norecs, and run the script again.
If the missing packages are unimportant, you might prefer to continue
with the install and fix the issues later.
Would you like to ignore the errors and continue now,
or exit and try to fix the problems?
(press enter to continue, any other key to exit)

Re: Netinstall and BunsenLabs on Sid

As of right now the BL netinstall script is only compatible with the Stable release branch. My advice would be to use the jessie netinstall and upgrade from there.

Re: Netinstall and BunsenLabs on Sid

I'm not sure how up-to-date the netinstall script is, period. We're keeping @johnraff quite busy with the ISOs!

My recommendation...

Install BunsenLabs. Remove tint2 and whatever big programs you have installed. Disable all bunsen sources and backports sources and switch to stretch in /etc/apt/sources. Comment out security lines and anything else, you just need the stretch repo. sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade. Now drop to runlevel 3 before running dist-upgrade...

Reboot and do damage control. Then switch your source to sid and repeat the steps.

Pretty much OK IMO. I updated the package list a couple of weeks ago I think, and the rest of the procedures are quite generic. I do regard keeping the netinstall script usable (on Debian Jessie) as a highish priority. In fact, any bug reports with the script are always welcome!

Re: Netinstall and BunsenLabs on Sid

@OP: you need to mess around with pkg-norecs in the bl-netinstall package and make sure all the packages are available in sid (gstreamer0.1 has been dropped in favour of gstreamer1.0, for example).

xfce4-volumed *is* available in sid so it might be listed in bunsen-common or something and causing a conflict.

Finally, it looks like the bunsen-themes .deb will have to be rebuilt with a higher GTK3+ dependency (sid has moved to 3.20). All the BunsenLabs themes will look broken for any GTK3 packages in sid, BTW.

Good luck!

EDIT: oh, and the touchpad settings may not work as sid now uses libinput instead of synaptics.

Re: Netinstall and BunsenLabs on Sid

Thanks everyone for their responses.

Was hoping to use this as a quick-ish fix for the stable installer not working on my laptop, but I keep running into problems.

I'll start a new thread with the installer problems and see if I can fix it on that end.

Use the stable ISO and try upgrading from that...
