Listening to this 1968/3/6 show right now: https://www.dropbox.com/s/h3ql9k0r7j5gg … 6.mp3?dl=0
and it's really pretty good excellent.

But there are just so many shows available out there:

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Everyone knows about Captain Beefheart of course? At the time I could never see why Peel raved about Trout Mask Replica and played tracks off it on nearly every show, but the Captain sounds pretty good on French TV, 1980:

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I'm trying to put together a list of reference tracks for judging speakers, headphones, amps and source components. Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Miles Davis, Trevor Horn, stuff like that, classical recordings aside. Maybe Thomas Dolby.

I'm not even a fan, but this Prince track might win...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Donald Fagen - Tomorrow's Girls (for bass response, should be tight and growly. Very boring but superbly produced)...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0QelYQhMw0

Pink Floyd - Dogs (for Floyd, duh. D minor ninth, E♭maj7sus2/B♭, Asus2sus4, and A♭sus2(♯11). Also Roger Waters' best lyrics, fight me)...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QA30qkRYy8

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms (so much to listen for)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfmWvfU3dNw

Miles Davis - So What (remastered, listening to the soundstage. The drums should be there, to the right. The piano, there, left.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylXk1LBvIqU

Trevor Horn? Oh, right, he did a bit of Yes and is in one of my favorite bands, The Art of Noise. He wrote Slave to the Rhythm and gave it to Grace Jones and then produced it. Stereo separation, check...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDN8tsx … rt_radio=1

Thomas Dolby, where to even start (listening for aliens eating my Buick)...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Symphony no 10 by Shostakovich played by the Russian National Orchestra conducted by Mikhail Pletnev. This is a live radio broadcast I recorded maybe ten years ago. FM -> computer -> CD. This symphony was written shortly after Stalin's death. Someone has described its mode as "optimistic tragedy".

Holy Moley Batman, speaker check!

Yes, Robin! Often the synthesizers in electronica provide a balanced frequency range for judging tonal qualities in stereo recordings and equipment, old chum.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Weird though, Firefox-esr crapped out for me with SoundCloud but worked with chromium. The Firefox fix was (or seems to be) about:config>dom.webaudio.enabled>false. YMMV, I've been messing with awesome and Xfce, and settings between sessions can get a little confusing.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Pitchfork's top 5 electronic(a) albums (they use these terms loosely, the first album link is pure jazz), 2021. In order, one through five. Some of these links are single tracks, the others are full albums.

Floating Points, Pharoah Sanders & The London Symphony Orchestra - Promises...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn8x0QbN4f8

Tirzah - Colourgrade...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-B_NMxZTIU

Lost Girls - Menneskekollektivet...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ah7o9sxpHk

^ Screw that one. The jam is great but those vocals were irritating already on first listen. Five listens in and I'll be ripping cables out of the back of my speakers. It sounded like Stereolab. *spits up hairball, with all the gagging and wretching and spittle*

Low - Hey What...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDvNX7R … Ap_DW2fWK0

^ Duran Duran?

Arca - KicK iii...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge4kU4t … fSzXz4yOjd

^ This album indeed does kick and is my pick out of those five choices. Skullqueen, phenomenal, but do yourself a favor or a favour and skip the odd track in that playlist, Electra Rex. Source... https://arca.ffm.to/kickiii

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I am disappointed by that list. Is FSOL from 1996-'97, and a bit of Aphex Twin and a few others (Chemical Brothers did some nice work back then) after that, still the best electronica out there? Techno me it's not true!

It's true, We Have Explosive...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xc9l7pygQRo

The chemical brothers are still bringing the big beat, this is from 2019...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

FSOL has recent albums out as well...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQouymGMkK8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTAqAmM_FjA
https://fsol.bandcamp.com/album/fsoldig … ndar-album

Sounds dripping from your speakers, puddling on the floor. What a mess.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF0Tjr8 … yQH3qJf4rs
https://fsol.bandcamp.com/album/cascade-2020

Disappointed again, the latest from Yoshinori Sunahara I could find that wasn't a remix is from 2011. Fortunately, it's fantastic. Really, extraordinary...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVuAP41 … JVEpmOuT1Q

Right, sorry for the spam, one more and done. FSOL from 2021...

Firefox played that ra.co link right off for me, no problems. Just had to make sure noscript wasn't blocking anything necessary. I've got dom.webaudio.enabled>true
