Re: What are you listening to right now?

Yes, that's one of their best. I'm listening to the same guy's recording of "Brothers In Arms" (from a record deck straight to a MacBook Pro) at the moment. Every video is just two or three tracks, like this one;;

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Inexpensive reference headphones. I went with Sennheiser HD 280 Pros, but Sennheiser makes much better headphones than these...

https://en-us.sennheiser.com/hd-280-pro

Grados are nice if you like lighter bass...

https://gradolabs.com/headphones/presti … 129-sr125x

Beyerdynamic, very nice for the money...

Monolith by Monoprice M565C Over Ear Closed Back Planar Magnetic Headphones, I'd love to hear what these sound like. They look gorgeous...

Reference track. Unless you have a $10,000 stereo, this at hi-res will do just fine...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Pat Metheney with Herbie Hancock, Dave Holland and Jack Dejohnette (live, 1990). Pat is playing his Roland synth-infused guitar...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rFcQ213ClU

They're all amazing musicians, but props to Dave Holland on acoustic bass. He is working really hard and making it sound effortless. That is a hard instrument to play in tune and rhythym.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Right now I am listening to Tigran Mansurian's requiem.
https://ecmreviews.com/2019/07/20/tigra … ries-2508/

Earlier this afternoon I listened to this reading of H.G. Wells' short story "A Dream of Armageddon"
https://yewtu.be/watch?v=uZTvYQtuFEA

Not the Wells of "The Time Machine" or "War of the Worlds". Try it out.

I'm sure I've posted it before, but I don't think I've ever posted the full name...

The Dudley Moore Trio -Bedazzled, full soundtrack (1967)...

"I'm Bedazzled" by 'Drimble Wedge and The Vegetation' at 19:02 is amazing, maybe my favorite music video ever. Here's the video (with poor audio quality)...

It's nearly time to start looking at all those album of the year lists, for those interested in new music. My vote is for Low's HEY WHAT: https://lowtheband.bandcamp.com/album/hey-what

Re: What are you listening to right now?

My expatriates who have lived or are now living in Japan are out of the loop. How did I only learn about the awesome rock/prog-rock band Tricot (from Kyoto) last night from my housemate who's from Detroit?!?? The shame.

Loving the Revolver guitar strap. The bassist just rocked his headphones off!

^Yeh not bad at all.
Don't blame yourself - I hadn't even heard of Math Rock...

(I think the bassist's a girl btw.)

I was looking at him/her for 20 minutes trying to figure it out. I think she identifies as a he, or something. Come In Tokio - Tokyo.

^"New Wave"?
Sounds good anyway.

John Peel was a fantastic DJ btw, sadly missed.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^That's a fantastic radio show, still playing as I write.

Prompted me to do a search on YT and lots of interesting stuff came up, none of which I've had time to listen to yet:
Show from 1967: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwLCv3a_44w
Interview in 1968: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkXJrwb3Wr0
Documentary made in 1990: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qsr6HGIfDkE
Interview in 1999: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBbz6yNL1qk

But there's lots, lots more.

John Peel started out on one of the pirate radio stations (Radio Caroline? London) in the late 60's with a programme called "The Perfumed Garden" which was highly spoken of, but I missed. Started listening to his "Top Gear" on BBC Radio 1 around 1967 I think. Compared with everything else on the radio it was an ear-opener. After 1975 or so I was out of the loop but still caught some of his programmes on BBC World Service. Like many people I failed to appreciate some of the stuff he played, but all of us are extremely grateful for what he did. Career sadly cut short by a heart attack while on holiday in Peru (altitude?)

RIP John

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ And he was a big influence on my music tastes, listening (still on BBC Radio 1) in the late 90s.

A feature he did every year from 1976 onwards was the Festive Fifty, a chart of his listeners' favourite music. Far too much information here: https://peel.fandom.com/wiki/Festive_Fi … troduction

His son is also a DJ on BBC radio with a decent show: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00slvl3

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ Good fidelity, that's giving the speakers a good frequency response check. The bass needs to be dialed in... right there.
