This label fell of my radar for a while. My loss. Their recent output has been spectacular.

A personal note to Paul Simon, this is how you do world music. Not some "You Can Call Me Al" bullshit with Chevy Chase in it.

Paul Simon responds: I'm worth millions of dollars and I was married to Carrie Fischer and Edie Brickell when they were both hot, and you were homeless and living in the forest a few years ago.

Me: James Taylor and Billie Joel are both better songwriters than you.

Paul: Homeless!

LOL! You are twisted, hhh. (Hat tip to Joni Mitchell)

It's not a song you want, dude! We can find you a better Al song! Look and listen to this utter dreck! It's horrible! Kill it with fire!

They're not even real trumpets, it's a goddamn synth until the last nauseating repetition when the trumpets finally kick in for their insipid kicks! He's Paul Simon, but he can't hire a horn section at this point in his already hugely successful career? No wonder those hot chicks divorced him! He probably got those African musicians because they worked for less than Union scale! I hate that album, I know it's hugely popular, people are idiots. I am too, but I'm right on this one.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures (1979) Their debut masterpiece. One of several from the late seventies/early eighties. Off the top of my head, The B-52's, Eurythmics, The Police, The Clash, Talking Heads, The Cars, The Pretenders and Van Halen all had amazing debut albums around then. Van Halen was all 'Screw punk and new wave, we're gonna' rock!'

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Let's see if I can get this right. Some really unimaginative album titles, there's a trend at that time, apparently.

Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (my bad, this was their second album, their breakthrough, 1983)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfeL4PnwDGc

The rest are all debut albums.

The Police - Outlandos d'Amour (1978)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiTWpqo … fNw_7Wa7Xm

The Clash - The Clash (1977 in the UK, '79 in the US)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsVjWd1 … yFiRu8iS09

Talking Heads - Talking Heads: 77 (1977)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwNENxF … mJVsgDARxJ

The Cars - The Cars (1978)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGz1k-L … 1GrtnVYCOA

The Pretenders - Pretenders (1979)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh-p766 … 0eFS0RSP__

The B-52's - the B-52's (1979)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwlyewNqpnE

Van Halen - Van Halen (1978)

Re: What are you listening to right now?

And the winner for Most Timeless Late '70s Debut Album goes to... The Cars with The Cars! *applause*

The Police and The Clash are my favorite bands after The Beatles and The Who and The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Pink Floyd, but that first Cars album is incredible and almost as fresh today as it was in '78.

Life's the same, I'm moving in stereo. Life's the same, except for my shoes.
Life's the same, I'm shakin' like tremelo. Life's the same, it's all inside you.

It's so easy... to blow up your problems.
It's so easy... to play up your breakdown.
It's so easy... to fly through a window.
It's so easy... to fool with the sound.

An album I didn't appreciate that much back then. It was on the radio a lot, but I was listening to The Police, The Who, Talking Heads and Black Uhuru at home instead.

I'm listening to King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's recent-ish album, K.G. - https://kinggizzard.bandcamp.com/album/k-g

If you can ignore the band's name (personally, it put me off listening to them for years), I think it might appeal to some of you on here.

He's got that wrestler's theme song. Not sure if he'd feel good about that though.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I'm currently a bit more than half the body weight of Triple H in his prime. I'm his height (not, I'm 6'1") but only 150lbs soaking wet. My top weight ever was 175, I did dead-lifts, squats and bench-presses 4 hours a week for a year to get there. I got laid a lot for a while after that. I'm back at my college weight and pant size, but much older. Carrying less weight is easier on the hips, knees and feet.

Triple H was 6'4" and 255lbs of solid muscle back in the day.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^It's quite a problem getting into King Gizzard because of their crazy amount of output. According to Wikipedia, they have made seventeen studio albums, seven live albums, two compilations, two extended plays and forty-two singles. In less than 10 years.

Also, their style varies wildly from album to album.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^We should get them to form a supergroup with Damon Albarn, Thom Yorke, Beck and BadBadNotGood. Featuring Buckethead and Aphex Twin. Daft Punk would definitely make an appearance for that, retired or not.

I hear ya there! I changed my diet, cutting out the processed foods as much as I could, and eventually dropped about a third of my body weight (that almost sounds scary!). I'm down to about where I was freshman year, maybe even my senior year in high school. My hips, knees, and feet thank me.

Anyway, at the moment playing "Waters of March" by Jane Monheit. Her voice makes my heart happy.

Thanks for the link. I remember being confused because I heard one of their songs, liked it, then heard another and didn't like it. But this was great!

Respect for the honest post. My only processed foods ATM are the occasional hot dog and deli sliced chicken breast. If you bring me a Big Mac I'll eat it.
