Re: What are you listening to right now?

One of my go-to tracks if I'm trying to assess an audio system, especially the speakers, speaker placement and the sound-stage. Grace Jones - Don't Cry, It's Only the Rhythm

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abWFNDOM7iA

Trevor Horn doing some nice production work in 1985.

Other reference tracks for me, Robben Ford - Mystic Mile

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Row83ujjXkc

Even the YouTube links for these tracks are useful. Volume level for each track is not uniform though, adjust accordingly.

Steely Dan, Aja (from the album Aja) and Gaucho (from the album Gaucho)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GesEA9M … wa&index=4

And any track from Love Over Gold by Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler)

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I didn't mention Chesky Records, a studio that uses the purest recording techniques with minimal studio production.

https://cheskyrecords.bandcamp.com/video

Great recordings, they really showcase your stereo. You can hear it, most of the production is pre-production, specifically room choice and mic choice and placement.

My favorite recording style, without all the studio isolation booths you can really hear some music.

Example, Mark Whitfield - Live and Uncut, Changes for Monk and Trane (live)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-81ThUW_IAk

Now argue that that is not beautifully recorded.

Great tracks!  One of my favourite GJ tracks was always Walking in the Rain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifhcWeXIOZs

Recently found out it's a cover of a slightly obscure Australian band Flash and the Pan (Vanda and Young songwriting legends in Australia), I like their version as well.

Robben Ford, live. He was in Miles Davis' band for a tour, I think. Anyway, an amazing guitarist...

I've posted it often, it's the definition of cool, and another great track to check your speakers with. Grace with Sly and Robbie, 1981.

One of my favorite trivia bits and track from that album (Nightclubbing) is Demolition Man, written by Sting. I guess he gave her the song and it was released on this album, and then The Police released it soon after on the album "Ghost In The Machine". There's no comparison, Grace's version blows Sting's away. It's not even close, Sly and Robbie and the rest of the band crush it.

Not sure if this the same album, but it's awesome in any case...

Kate Bush is still rocking, here she is in 2005 (I think)...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I'm getting a Frank Zappa vibe from this. Sounds you've never heard before, played in a familiar style, which results in music that is uncomfortable to listen to. Nice post!
