Great. Not even many pedal effects. Mitch Mitchell's drumming too.

What was this recording done on, a cell phone through a tunnel?

There's a KEXP Live performance, better quality.

There's also this. Is that really Damo Suzuki? I think it is. Epic.

Mitch is my third favorite rick drummer after Stuart Copeland and Keith Moon. I have weird tastes though, John Bonham I respect for his innovation and influence, but, my goodness, so sloppy!

F*ck, this is good.
Thanks for sharing.
I wonder if they'll ever come to my neck of the woods?

They're playing in a lot of places over the next few months so maybe... https://bmblackmidi.com/tourdates/

I saw them by chance at a festival last summer, it was quite intense!

ABBA - Super Trouper

Lara6683's piano interpretations are worth checking out: https://www.twitch.tv/lara6683/videos .

Finally,

ORIGA - 水のまどろみ

Essentially all her songs and albums are worth a listen (either in Russian or Japanese or English). Sadly, mostly hard to obtain around here.

Great. Not even many pedal effects. Mitch Mitchell's drumming too.

This is from Are You Experienced, as I'm sure everyone knows, the first release by The Jimi Hendrix Experience (1967)

You're right, the only effects on the instruments seem to me to be an octave-doubler on Hendrix, so he doesn't have to actually transform into Wes Montgomery, and reverb. All the rest is that crazy vocal stuff.

That was by far the trippiest track on that album, but was hugely trounced by this, from Electric Ladyland, 1983 (A Mermam I Should Turn To Be). '83 is in the title, it was released in 1968 and was the last of the three official JHExperience albums...

https://vimeo.com/208085174

Mitch is brilliant. He defers to Jimi, he takes over when it's time. It's the art of a drum solo, without a drum solo. The guy must have studied with Bruce Lee.

Reverb, yes, but did they have octave-doublers (halvers?) in those days? He might have been doing octaves - it's not all that hard, and he had technique...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

I read somewhere that an octave-doubler was one of the first boxes that Eddie Kramer created for Hendrix. Time for research...

... Found it. It was created by his "sound tech", Roger Mayer...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

So that link says it was used on Purple Haze (studio version from Are You Experienced).

Here is Hendrix performing Purple Haze with the JHE for some sort of promo vid? No reverb, no effects (no Wes Montgomery), remarkably good sound quality, all things considered...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjwWjx7Cw8I

That is one tight, fledgling power trio.

The Ocavia - add one octave up down or both. neat effect for 1967.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Ah, thanks. Now I think of it, Purple Haze does have some octavey-sounding lead guitar.
He broke some barriers - further than Eric Clapton by far IMHO. (That was the dichotomy in those days.)

Sting - Live (2019) Shape of my Heart, from My Songs, originally release on Ten Summoners Tales...

This will be interesting, some songs are remixes, some are re-recordings with different artists.
