Back in the early 2000s, Alizée was all the rage among us 12+ olds. Good reasons for learning French.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

^ 1979 with David Byrne. Definitely has that Talking Heads meets King Crimson vibe! I remember this track, I probably haven't heard it since the early eighties, though I still quote "Bells, I can hear bells!". To quote Ronin, "One grows old."

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Talking Heads would not exist without Byrne - like Fripp and King Crimson.
Byrne helped many Brazilian musician totally forgotten and with no opportunity in the wild company records to go back on business.
One good example is Tom Zé, a fantastic musician. Byrne was always in Brasil to rescue hidden talents.

I am resplendent in divergence

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Frankly, I hated Byrne's later latino stuff, but it's still cool. I'm more into the early, African influenced stuff, like Fear Of Music, Remain In Light with Adrien Belew, produced by Brian Eno, and My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts with Brian Eno.

Fear Of Music is a genius eighties, er, pre-eighties album (1979)

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Byrne producing the B-52s wasn't received well by critics or audience album sales, but it is an awesome album IMO. Mesopotamia (1982)...

Re: What are you listening to right now?

That's new for me. I have never listened any latino roots in David Byrne's song.
Anyway, that makes two of us.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Memories Can't Wait into Air, really brilliant. The lyrics to Air, silly yet profound.

David Byrne and backup vocalists wrote:

Air (gasp), Air (gasp), Air (gasp), Air.

Hit me in the face.

I run faster! (faster, faster, faster, faster)

Faster into the air! I say to myself...

"What is happening...

... to my skin?

Where is that protection that I needed?!?"

Air can help you too, air... can help you too.

Some people say not to worry 'bout the air, some people never had experience with air.

It can break your heart.

So remember! (remember, remember, remember, remember!)

When the weather gets rough... you'll say to yourself...

"What is happening...

... to my skin?

Where is that protection that I needed?!?"

Air can hurt you too, air... can hurt you too.

Some people say not to worry 'bout the air, some people never had experience with air.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

1993 King Crimson lineup (minus Adrien Belew) with David Sylvian on vocals, second-lead and rhythm guitars. Most of this is from the '86 Sylvian/Fripp album Gone To Earth...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iG4-UOAjaSA

-edit- I'm sure there's a third lead guitar I'm hearing, is that Belew in another white shirt in the shadows? This guy with the headphones, is this Belew? And Sylvian switches to keyboards, of course. This band needs more talent!

Screenshot_2019-05-01_03-57-58.md.png

Not Adrien, another talented guitarist. It's not Bruford on drums, either.

The whole band, and Zappa especially on his brief but frequent solos, makes it seem effortless. You know your in good hands when Ruth Underwood is playing vibes and percussion in a bikini top.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

The best band ever, a power trio, the songs are holding up better than a lot of Beatles and Stones and Who and Floyd songs after the decades have gone by, because we're talking late 70s/early 80s The Police with Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland.
