Bach, Heinz Holliger on oboe, 1964. On The Wurst of Bach (1971), Peter Schickile parodied him as Heilleger Dankeshand.

Re: What are you listening to right now?

Heinz Holliger on that Bach recording, second movement. That is "circular breathing", pushing the last of your air out from your mouth into that tiny reed while silently gasping a new breath into your lungs so the sound is seamless, continuous and infinite. Hard to do. Then add intonation, interpretation, phrasing (perfect, truth), dynamics. He's the best. Even on this old scratchy recording, he sounds perfect, better than a synthesizer. The tone, I forgot to mention tone, the actual sound. Best duck EVAH!

Re: What are you listening to right now?

And that leaves us with Eric Clapton. The only one of the 70's god guitarists who still plays straight blues and can outplay Gilmour (sorry, Keith Richards). Sorry, this recording is pretty crap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4gVaCUMbkw

And then there's Pete, my personal hero. Lennon and McCartny are in a league of their own. Sting, Phil Collins, Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel, Stevie Windwood... All great singer/songwriters from the 60's, but Pete brings something a little different. Always contrast, hard vs soft.

Love her too, have seen her live also (in the nineties).
Started with Home of the Brave (this was not only a live show but also an album. Excerpt from the album: Language is a Virus).
She played a violin whose strings were made from strips of magnetized tape that contained some recordings, the bow contain a tape pick up thingie.
I then went through all her Albums until Bright Red, which was my favorite for a long time...

My song to walk me out at my funeral is "All of My Love" by Led Zep.

Good song too.

reason i mention this is a friend of a friend past away recently and his name was Peter Frampton same as the Rock legend, they played a song by the still living Rock legend Peter Kenneth Framton at his funeral, unfortunatly the deceased Peter commuted suicide for unknown reasons. He was in IT this fellow too and im told the first thing he said to people who phoned him with an issue was "just reboot it".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Frampton

It was this song...

Baby I love your way..

That violin with the magnetic tape. I have actually seen that in a gallery in the early 90's. She was exhibiting a lot of her inventions. She also had a desk which, you place your elbows into two recesses in the table top , cup your hands over your ears, and you can hear music that is playing as though you have headphones on. The table is acting as a speaker. I have a story about the day I went to that exhibition but it's too long winded. Her film - Heart of a dog - is absolutely great. Very sad and very thought provoking. I have always said that of all the famous artists/musicians I would want to meet theres only two I REALLY would want to meet Laurie Anderson and John Lydon (Johnny Rotten)
My favourite all time track of Laurie Anderson is Big Science
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0Y7830_WWk
It's got humour, history, politics, and social commentary all in one song.
I could talk about my love of her work forever hahahaha - so I will stop now or this post will take up a few pages of bl-forums hahaha

I will make sure to post this on LQ's "Do you believe in Aliens" thread!

ayy lmao

The telephone is an antiquity - you never know who is calling, there is no image, it is an outmoded product which constantly disrupts work (Ralf Hutter (Kraftwerk)) ps: my wife knows how much I dislike being disrupted at Work - Ralf Hutter hit the nail on the head there

actually i think now it was the other way round - the pickup was on the violin, the magnetic tape on the bow...
a friend musician once recreated it, i don't remember how, but it wasn't hard to do.

Sharkey's Night

And Sharkey says: Hey, kemosabe(?)! Long time no see.
He says: Hey sport. You connected us. You pick up the pieces.
He says: You know, I can see two tiny pictures of myself

Every time I light a cigarett, they light up theirs.
I take a drink and I look again and they're drinkin' too.
