^ which one?

i am more than halfway through Sense8.
Something about the title is very cheesy, for some reason i had to think of keanu reeves and the matrix... ops
But, how I love it!
Reminds me a lot of Cloud Atlas - same directors mostly, and clearly similar ideas - but not just re-hashed, this is a brilliant story in its own right, like cloud atlas.

they left markers for season 2 in the plot, but i can see they are telling a story, and they are telling it til the end. the way i like it.
btw, according to imdb there's supposed to be a christmas special soon!

The BBC series with Cumberbatch. It's fantastic. I especially love Andrew Scott as Moriarty.

^I think he was also good as Alan Turing, liked that movie about cracking enigma. As for Sherlock: The old Jeremy Brett series are really charming!

...unsurprisingly, because it is made by the same directors, the wachowskis (in collaboration with tom tykwer, who was also part of the team for cloud atlas)!

Watched the new Lorde music video. Thought I might get more than a 3 chord club jam.

I was wrong.

IIRC, we discussed Holmes actors at #!. Brett is my favorite.

I'm sure I mentioned here somewhere that I find Freeman to be almost unwatchable, his shtick is so repetitive. What did I call him? Oh yeah...

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. His formula is wearing on me, but the jokes are too funny to deny.

The big bang theory, TV series. Many problems with it, but Sheldon character is #1.

Re: What are you watching right now?

Would you believe it? There is a dvd, I watched it two times before - carefully taken out and put back - and now it just does not work anymore. There is no way to read it... Player gets a bit loud while trying to read but: No. No way. Almost a new dvd. ddrescue takes a really long time and I don't expect too much, but there is nothing to lose either. In the end I watched a move called Gloomy Sunday, which I had as avi.

Re: What are you watching right now?

Yes, that's possible, however I tried different disks too and they are fine. The DVD is just not ok anymore and I have no idea why (sitting in the box all the time)...

watching house, ending season 2. great fun, love the sarcasm and detail. not to be taken seriously.
probably also pretty unrealistic.

Re: What are you watching right now?

@ohnonot Thank you for the link. I've read about old cds and dvds making trouble (I had some cds like that but could rescue the data). However this is a 2009 dvd, no bronzing and making the light test reveals only one single tiny spot on the surface. I had dvds in much worse condition and I could watch them. Well, I still have to finish that ddrescue process, am wondering what it'll bring...

Re: What are you watching right now?

@hhh: wow, so much javascript on that site. can't see a thing.

@martix:
if i were you i'd simply try to
a) blow out the player
b) clean the dvd
but that doesn't mean that it could also be a software/encoding issue.
have you tried using a cli player like mpv or mplayer(2)? that way you'd get meaningful messages.

Re: What are you watching right now?

@ohnonot Many thanks!!!! I was on a completely wrong track! Indeed, as you mentioned it turned out to be a decryption issue. I have a few dvds, the other ones did work well so far. Anyhow, after checking the player messages in the terminal there were complaints about missing css. In the end I found this site and downloading the latest tarball from here solved the issue. After extracting it was easy to install via

 ./configure --prefix=/usr
    make
    sudo make install

I won't have any more worries with that dvd again, as I ripped it already, for just in case anything really happens to it...

Re: What are you watching right now?

this one's by the same makers as district 9 and if you haven't seen district 9 yet, you have to see it.

but just now i watched Chappie and i haven't been disappointed.

neither movie is perfect, but they're clever and different and very entertaining.

^ Have you seen Elysium?

That's also a Blomkamp film, I like it a lot, even with Matt Damon in the lead.

Re: What are you watching right now?

This archive video on the IBM System 360 is fascinating.

Stuff like this is where I get my geek on. I know where we've come from to get to where we are today. Everything from CDC machines and Cray XMP's to SGI Clusters. All fascinating stuff. All old school Big Iron. I love reading about, and watching video's about this subject. So frickin' cool.

Anyway, I could prattle on and on about this all day. But there's the video.
