Re: What are you watching right now?

Finished Unbelievable. Recommended! Although the title is somewhat unimaginative.
A good mix of troubled teenager drama + crime procedural.
Good acting alround.
I particularly liked that America & Americans seem to be portrayed slightly more realistically than usually. Not everybody is under 30, bodybuilt and/or close to anorexic. Surroundings aren't either dirty slum or upper middle class suburb, just normal towns, shops etc.
Also: it has an ending. No cliffhangers for a possible season 2.
Oh, and it's based on a real story.

You've just described nearly every Hollywood film of the '70s, '80s and early '90s that wasn't sci-fi or fantasy or historical or some combination of those (I'm looking at you, Excalibur). Look how far we've progressed! monkey

-edit- Michael Douglas films excluded. You do not want to be in a Korean corner store with him (Falling Down), you do not want to be his wife in the kitchen (Fatal Attraction), you do not want to be his police partner on a case in Japan (Black Rain), you do not want to be part of his expensive birthday party (The Game), and you do not want to be Danny Devito in South America (Romancing the Stone). No good will come of it, except for the good of glorious cinema.

Kind of reminds me of that Metal Gear fan film a few years ago.

Re: What are you watching right now?

To click or not to click, that is the question.

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
Disney's slings and arrows of outrageous fortune?

Or to take arms against a Sea of Prequel troubles.

And by opposing them? To die by Lightsaber. To sleep, snuggling with Jabba.

I could go on, it's a long speech, and Star Wars died with me 2/3rds of the way through Return of the Jedi. It died with me here first, I think. Not this scene, this is a good scene. Just pretty much everything after this...

I've never watched the Mandalorian. I'm fairly confident that this is a typical scene in it.

Re: What are you watching right now?

You don't like Return of the Jedi??  Dang..

We saw episode 9 and I liked it way better than 7 & 8.  The thing about them is they have no re-watchable value to me though.  We rewatch episodes 1-6 and all the side stories (rogue one, solo, mandalorian) all the time.  I even have a soft spot for the 2 ewok movies.  Now the wookie Christmas special requires a serious fade to get into.

Sorry, one more post on the subject. The film was going so well until then. Camp, but fun and cool. Bobba Fett...

Why is Empire the best Star Wars film ever made to date? Because of scenes like this...

Re: What are you watching right now?

^ I'm binge watching it, as I haven't ever watched it before. It's maybe the best audio/visual experience I've ever had, up there with Blade Runner. The visuals are intense, the soundtrack is inspired and the comedy is hysterical.

-edit- Movie references are plentiful. Two visuals in that 'toon, the Batplane descending is from Blade Runner and the Doc suspended by a rope over lava is Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Re: What are you watching right now?

Produced by Leon Schlinger, musical direction by Carl Stalling, 1942 Looney Tunes/Bugs Bunny...

I just learned this last week... Carrots and rabbits being a thing in popular culture is directly related to Bugs. Also, Bugs' whole persona and mannerisms are based on Clark Gable in the 1934 movie "It Happened One Night" co-starring Claudette Colbert, especially this carrot scene...

What is the big deal about this brexit and why are so many people crying about it on the main stream media? Wasnt it a majority win by those who vote on the behalf of UK Citizens who actually vote?

Why would Britain want to be ruled by Brussels and the rest of the EU conglomerate ?

Re: What are you watching right now?

When you say "ruled by Brussels" what exactly do you mean?

Edit: and putting aside all the arguments about Brexit, just because something has been voted for by a majority doesn't mean you've got to like it and just accept it.

EU law is supreme over UK law.

Well it does show the sentiment of the voter base, do you think it would be different again if another referendum was instigated?

Re: What are you watching right now?

You asked "What is the big deal about this brexit and why are so many people crying about it on the main stream media?". 48% of voters voted to remain in the EU. If that figure has remained unchanged, that is obviously not a majority but still a large proportion of the population and probably helps to explain why a lot of people are not happy about it.

And it's all over the media because it's a good story and generates clicks/page views. Why else do journalists do anything? ;-)

It was a slim majority vote based on the electoral turnout of 72.2%. And you still have not answered why the upset?

Edit: If the whole country voted in the referendum the numbers may add up better, as it stands if you dont vote you have no voice. Saying that because it was a narrow margin and was too close for a majority win is like saying your football team should have won because the difference was only 1 point.

What a beautiful idea to get a message "across", quite literally. Probably still hard to read from Calais wink
A little melodramatic though, esp. the last bit...

Re: What are you watching right now?

Feelings are very strong in the UK on both sides of the Brexit issue, which has divided the country in a very similar way to how Trump has divided the USA.

But this is why we discourage discussion of politics (and religion) here - emotions can easily interfere with friendly rational discourse.

Star Trek: Picard (Official SE1EP1)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PPm5l3o2zw

-edit- And that was the best Star Trek I've ever seen or heard. Bloody good stuff. Jeff Russo's score is exceptional, the computer displays and all the fonts are perfect, really good acting, very few cringe lines/scenes and finally some great lighting and cinematography in Star Trek again.
