June 2016 Screenshots

Please use thumbnails

Do not embed images larger than approx 250x250px (62,500px) into posts, use thumbnails linking to a hosted image instead

We recommend http://scrot.moe for image uploads. Thank you very much, mr.neilypops!!!

Avoid the large thumbnail www.imgur.com code, use the "medium" link thumbnail.  An example of the code:

[url=http://imgur.com/your_image_code][img]http://i.imgur.com/your_image_codem.jpg[/img][/url]

Notice the m in your_image_codem.jpg in the IMG code block

Users have been using www.postimage.org lately which does a nice job and is Multi-lingual as well.  Upload your image to the site and grab the Thumbnail for Forums (1) code.

Example BB-code from imgbox.com:

[URL=http://imgbox.com/xxxxxx][IMG]http://t.imgbox.com/xxxxxx.jpg[/IMG][/URL]
                   ^ fullsize image                ^ thumbnail

Here is a generic piece of code if you need to create your own thumbnail:

[url=http://link.to.your.fullsized.image][img]http://link.to.your.thumbnail.image[/img][/url]

Please use the Report button to let moderators know of images that are too large. Thank you!

Re: June 2016 Screenshots

I've gone a bit mad with the colours. I blame hhh's excellent theming tutorial for encouraging me to get down and dirty with every aspect of my desktop. Now look what you've done.

Ha! I didn't know that. Also, corenominal had ditched Windows for Ubuntu and OS X last fall, but it looks like he's been missing him some Debian...

It's just an experiment. xenial installed from their mini.iso is very, very fun.

Cycle model, please, so I can view more pics. That thing is as beautiful as the prettiest pushbikes, and I hate internal combustion engines. -edit- NM, I missed that last link the first time.

OK, not quite as pretty. Exhaust pipes and heatsinks, bah. Still, that frame and saddle combo is sweet...

^ Yeah, BMW sure do know how to knock out custom bikes and the original 1936 R5 was one of my favorite motorcycle of all time smile

Re: June 2016 Screenshots

BTW, in that last wallpaper, is that an airhorn under the saddle, mirroring the exhaust's look? And that exhaust is insulated and carbon fibre tipped, or something? And the drive is chainless, some sort of direct transmission linkage? Sorry, I didn't read the spec sheet and I might not understand it if I did. I could use a walk-through, if you don't mind the OT. It's fascinating, such a beautiful piece of engineering (planning) and craftsmanship (execution).

No, it's the open bellmouth for the air intake of the bespoke supercharger smile

Carbon-fibre tip, I think the exhaust downpipes are titanium.

Cardan shaft-drive, an original part from the 1936 R5

Unbelievable. They don't make 'em like the used to, but BMW is making them better.

On topic, no changes to my main jessie/mate/xfce rock. It's perfect.

Re: June 2016 Screenshots

While I do have boring desktops, I decided to live on the edge and add just a little spice to this one. A little Arch-blue in addition to an alteration to the Onyx theme and conky. I'm a wild man!

Re: June 2016 Screenshots

I've never seen my RAM usage maxed on Debian, unless there was a problem somewhere. This is the majority of my GUI apps running all at once on one desktop. The 2 browsers each have one tab open only, but RAM is very lean still!

Screenshot-06022016-074810PM.th.png

@mrneilypops, I was never that big on Marilyn, but WOW! Woof.

-edit- BTW, if you count mate-panel and it's applets, xfce4-power-manager's applet and network-manager-gnome, that's over 2 dozen GUI apps running. Why does htop report only one task running? What does it define as a task?

.. with 14 conkys running as well.

Re: June 2016 Screenshots

Concerning htop,
You can hide/show user threads with the 'H' key
kernel threads with the 'K' key
Use 'F1' for help

hhh wrote:

It comes down to the difference between a process and a thread (aka LWP or LightWeight Process)

The short version:
The kernel holds a number of structures for each process.
A process can start several threads or LWP's.
The kernel does not hold all the process structures for a thread, but uses some of the structures of the 'parent' process.

Search for 'process versus thread' if  you want to know more.
