BL main website now with optional dark theme

For the night owls among us (and out of compassion for my own eyes), I have created a first iteration of a dark Mercury for the BL main websites (www, pkg). The name and the colours are derived from FluxBB's theme with the same name.

It works only with JavaScript (because it injects an override CSS file and exchanges the main logo (this was the quickest way to get it done)).

In order to use the theme, browse to either site with

https://www.bunsenlabs.org/?mercury
https://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/?mercury

This will set a cookie and switch you permanently to the dark theme (until you clear your cookies, or disable JS).
In order to clear the cookie for the page and revert to the normal (bright) colour scheme, just go to

https://www.bunsenlabs.org/?no-mercury
https://pkg.bunsenlabs.org/?no-mercury

You probably also need to force-reload the pages in your browser in order to flush the cached bright pages.

Find the links documented here.

And here's how it looks like:

That's flattering to hear from the person who designed the flame shape wink

The main BL theme is bright mostly because at the time I pushed for it on the grounds that it would be too much work to get a proper dark theme made and set up in time. Now it turns out that there was quite a bit of potential and that it does also look, in my opinion, much better than the light theme…incremental improvement.

Wow, this is really nice work! Thanks, twoion!

EDIT: Can the forum pages start using the same dark theme? In the works for future?

I read that as 'dank themes'. Was disappointed. (Just kidding, looks awesome. Thanks for the work.)

The corresponding theme is also named Mercury.

Re: BL main website now with optional dark theme

This looks nice! Unfortunately it works for me on https://www.bunsenlabs.org/?mercury, but after clicking on forums, it's gone. There is an add-on called "stylish". Having something on it that converts the page to the old #! forum style would be great. Just for being a bit oldschool...

Switch the forum style to Mercury in Profile>Display. The URL contains ?mercury for a reason.

Re: BL main website now with optional dark theme

As an aside, have the forums switched to fluid width?

I used to get fixed borders which ruined my lowres tiling experience but it is much better now.

I didn't change anything about the general layout. I think I noticed a change some Nightly versions back too; I guess the zooming behaviour of FF has improved.

But personally, I'm using a CSS override revoming the max width proprety altogether anyway.

Oh, I overlooked this feature. Great, thanks! The orange looks great on the dark background.
