It's so good, they're probably gonna start changing everything to something completely different in a year or so.

I went with Cinnamon in the end:

I think GNOME would have been a bit too different for him, notwithstanding it's clearly superior paradigm.

EDIT: Found a Windows 10 theme for Cinnamon:

It's become very well integrated, lots of conveniences, and it looks very slick. There are a lot of developer perks as well, I think.

http://fossbytes.com/gnome-3-20-delhi-r … ow-to-get/

Definitely a bunch of features I might not ever need, hence, I've been adapting to Mate. That said, gnome-core is awesome ATM, even on jessie. The new upgrade system for 3.20 sounds extremely impressive (from the Release Notes that I linked)...

It has always been possible to install software updates through the Software application. However, from 3.20, it is also possible to upgrade to new major versions of your operating system. This is the first time that GNOME has this ability, and means that you no longer need to do a new installation or use a command line tool to get the next version of your distribution. It is a major milestone in making GNOME-based systems user friendly and accessible to all.

Upgrading your operating system is simple and convenient: you are automatically notified when an upgrade is available to be downloaded, and are given feedback about download progress. Installation of the upgrade happens while the system is not running, in order to increase safety and prevent errors.

I'm assuming by "not running" they mean on reboot, before the user-session starts... what do they mean? You'll be prompted to reboot, or have the option to upgrade on next reboot or not upgrade yet? You realize that when this finally hits Debian your system is supposed to auto-upgrade until the Dektop/Laptop/Tablet paradigm is obsolete, right? For years and without much thought on your part, is what they're saying.

The announcement is a bit misleading. They already have this mechanism in Fedora - Software downloads the updates, creates a systemd boot target for upgrading, reboots you into this, applies the upgrades, reboots you again. It really seems like something that Ubuntu and Fedora user might appreciate, rather than a super useful feature for the rest of the Linux world.

@hhh - could not agree more with your comment:

"We don't give a frick what you use, just make it look GOOD!"

And I might add "look GOOD!" is in the eye of the creator!  I'm not 100% happy with mine - but my wife likes it so I can live with that.

@searchone - yea, that mrpeachy clock is something interesting but it needs a BIG space to work right.

Yea, I'm almost the same.  But if I think about it, as I look at it, I can see it - not good to get the time instantly though.  Check that link again and go to the next post.  That helps with the time part, but Days, between 28 and 31, and month are 12 so like a watch: 3 position = March; 7 = July  wink

It's a 'novelty' clock - nothing else.
