There have been times this has happened on a daily basis, especially shortly after Jessie went stable.  Seems Flash is chock full of zero-day exploits just waiting to be discovered.  Yet another reason to champion HTML5 and AnythingButFlash.

speaking of which, why the heck is flash still being used? we've heard of the death of flash for years now. apple dropped it from the iphone years ago, most parties speak ill of it, and yet it is still around. what gives?

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Adobe has considerable weight and influence, particularly in the Windows world. Plus, for the longest flash was nearly ubiquitous and web devs have to go back and change everything up.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Flash has been off my systems for months now and barely needed it. Just for some live streamings every once in a while (Formula 1 races, rugby matches...) and I use a VM with almost nothing in but a browser into a sandbox for that flash crap. Better leave flash off, dudes.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

So many net radio stations seem these days to be dropping direct streaming urls and forcing you to use flash in a browser just to listen to some sounds.  neutral
(rtmpdump can be a workround, but it's a lot of work, which is different in each case.)

Seriously?! That's cruel. Belongs in hhh's "Greater states of chaos" thread.

Probably to keep people from "stealing" the music, although I have had a plugin in both firefox and chrome for the longest now that lets me download whatever flash stuff suits my fancy. Uggh having to convert pure sound from .flv would just suck though.

yeah, had a habit of listening to Radio FIP* in the mornings through my music player. It hasn't been working through the link for about 2 months now. Didn't know it's a recent widespread epidemic though involving many other stations.
Apart from them being unpleasant in this particular manner, they are a great radio station if you want to discover new/old world music. Very eclectic, but full of gems.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

^nice! First off was Baden-Powell.

Sometimes it's not to hard to find a url from these flash things - they don't all use rtmp.
In this case, in Firefox, right-click "inspect element", go to the "network" tab, pause and restart the player and you can find this url, which plays OK in mplayer for me at the moment. These urls have a habit of breaking, or being for a limited time, but you might give it a try...

Yes.

EDIT: Oooh, magnesium body -- that actually looks rather nice.

Arch would run well on that smile

The inside view looks much nicer/hackable than macbook innards. And have you looked at the price? It's obvious that this is more value of the money than what Apple is offering. The OSX-is-UNIX argument doesn't really pull anymore because with that kind of hardware, you just run a real Linux (BSD, whatever) paravirtualized. HFS+ is a steaming pile of crap, and OSX is not really more stable than say Windows 7 (haven't used 8 and 10 yet).

A lot of people in my neighborhood are moving, don't know them well enough to ask why or where, just find that odd because I'm currently packing as well.:)

I think that gives me 3 post now or is it 4?.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

^ Odd; I just moved this weekend as well.  Former roommate bought a new house; next door neighbor's roommate moved out.  Slightly smaller space, but since I've been "going vertical" in organizing things I actually have more room to go through stuff I haven't touched in over a decade.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

^I retired over a year ago, and find myself with a lot of time at the keyboard, and need to move away for a different view and change of scenery.

That is what is best about packing, all the stuff thats not going and the cool stuff that was forgotten about.

I actually found a home at a lake community, larger with less rooms,  A literal stone throw from water and lots of trees, something I don't have either of at the present. On an acre of land  and  maybe a garden this spring.

Glad you found a comfortable living space, and it works for you. Change is a good thing, especially with their abode.

^Less is more, true for many things.

Yes, the projection system is something I had to go back and take a second look, I was in envy as well. It was an overall an informative and logical presentation. Enjoyed it, thank you.

^In a most excellent way.

Anyone who missed this movie, missed out! But those who have, this clip sequence comes to mind often, first saw it 30 years ago.  So much of this movie was unique and original, caught me way off guard,  one of my favorite sci-fi movies.
