Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Since I haven't done benchmarks in aeons - Thinkpad x220, mSATA SSD, dm-crypt:

root@lxc:~# systemd-analyze
Startup finished in 2.386s (kernel) + 7.097s (userspace) = 9.483s

So basically doubled. Still, even POST takes more time than that.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Trimmed down my grub.cfg

empty@TheLab ~ % cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg
set timeout=0
set root=(hd0,1)
menuentry 'BunsenLabs' {
        linux /vmlinuz root=UUID=8e290315-82d3-48bb-8ab4-a51cadabfd2d rw quiet ipv6.disable=1
        initrd /initrd.img
}

I hate that silly `update-grub` script [1], the file it generates is not human-readable mad

EDIT:
[1] Well, `grub-mkconfig` really -- `update-grub` is even sillier:

empty@TheLab ~ % cat `which update-grub`
#!/bin/sh
set -e
exec grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg "$@"

I mean, why? What is the point of that FFS? roll

It is for old men whose forgetter is getting better all the time smile
update-grub remains longer in short term memory than grub-mkconfig, I guess.

^ I didn't think of it like that lol

Ironically, I can never remember if it's `update-grub` or `grub-update` and I have to use startpage.com to check...

Exactly the same...  yikes
I have to use my bash history: sudo u or g and page up to see if it is "update-grub" or "grub-install" ops

/etc/inputrc:

# alternate mappings for "page up" and "page down" to search the history
"\e[5~": history-search-backward
"\e[6~": history-search-forward

Brilliant, thank you!

However, I don't use that script -- I prefer to write my own grub.cfg glasses

^ I know you do -- you mention it every chance you get, on every forum where you are a member. (-:

I also create my own grub.cfg. I thought others might benefit from the alias tip.

I also have several aliases for things I can't remember, or remember incorrectly, and an alias that opens my alias file for editing. (-:

it's ubuntu.
the early days, when the faith in the force of user-friendliness was rampaging.
the guy who wrote that moved on to creating init systems (this is not true, i'm only joking).

but since it's from my early linux days, it's in my blood.
but why install a command (it exists as a seperate aur package on archlinux, to the bemusement of many!) when an alias does it:

alias update-grub='grub-mkconfig -o blablabla'

HAPPY SHROVE TUESDAY EVERYONE *THROWS PANCAKES EVERYWHERE*

The servant lifted off a kind of ottoman a long peacock-blue drapery, rather of the nature of a domino, on the front of which was emblazoned a large golden sun, and which was splashed here and there with flaming stars and crescents. “You’re to be dressed as Thursday, sir,” said the valet somewhat affably.

WTH, direct soundcloud support in MPD? Let's go…

mpc load soundcloud://url/https://soundcloud.com/radioclassica/top-ten-3122014-cyprien-katsaris-111-piano-hits
$ mpc play
Top Ten - 3/12/2014 - Cyprien Katsaris 111 Piano Hits
[playing] #876/876   2:09/62:02 (3%)
volume: 74% repeat: on random: off single: off consume: off

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Just tried running the Rockbox Utility in Debian Jessie.  Won't launch; apparently exo-utils or whatever says "what is this i dont even" now.  Never had a problem with it in Wheezy or Squeeze.  Anyone else run this in Jessie, and if successful, do you know what I need that isn't in the default LXDE install?

(Posting in Completely Off Topic because I already have the latest version installed in my Clip Zip; I was going to use the installer to add some themes which I was able to extract and install manually.  I just wanted to know if the installer is completely deprecated now.)

^ No error messages; not even recognized as an executable now.

EDIT:  It now has to be copied to a ext* filesystem, flagged as executable, and run from terminal.  IIRC none of this was necessary before; could simply right-click and execute.  Anyway, it does properly run from terminal with a dotslash.
