Or if you have a stale loaf, wrap it in a wet cloth and bake in a hot oven for a few minutes > lovely crusty fresh bread!

That dish is called Arme Ritter around here ("Poor Knights") wink Works best with rye bread IMO though, never liked white breads with it. Soak old rye bread in milk, baste with egg, fry in butter, serve hot with added honey (the 'solid' kind of honey works best) Unsweet variant is butter & cold cuts or cheese like Gouda

"Fattiga riddare" in Swedish.

"Lapskojs" seems do exist all around the shores of the North Sea. The spelling varies a little but it is the same in Sweden and North Germany. This guy seems to think it is very old and exotic. It was quite common in school canteens when I was a kid and I have had it at a restaurant in a museum in Altona.

Sound a little like "Pan Perdu" in France - or "French Toast" in Canada

milk, egg, cinnimon beaten, soak dried bread briefly, and fry in no stick pan or with a little butter.

Mmmmmmm

The French toast frying method makes a very different taste compared with baking. Maillard reaction in the frying pan?

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Well, it's what I grew up with and saw cooked in France.  I must try the "baked method".

have no idea what you meany: Maillard reaction in the frying pan?

However Wikipedia just cleared that up.

I have "always" used a preheated pan for anything. ALWAYS!  big_smile

We should be very grateful for the Maillard reaction.

No radical SJWs to cancel pianists yet it seems to raid the comment section. Probably because piano playing is an interest where actual skill is needed to break into, just like chess and woodcraft, and very unlike radical pcdom, where the only prerequisite you need is getting a lobotomy which is a passive "medical" procedure.

Google now offers all users a free cloud shell account, consisting of a transient virtual machine and a persitent 5GB home directory in the cloud: https://shell.cloud.google.com

Nice back up, although of course you would never use a shell on another person's computer to do your private computing, right? They also use tmux innovatively:

Indeed not, but it could still be a handy thing to have sometimes. Just bear in mind that G probably see something in it for them. Maybe among thousands of free accounts, they hope to hit nice nuggets now and then.

Let's make sure that 5G holds nothing but random rubbish. smile

Today, I set up a home server for streaming my video archive on the LAN, using Jellyfin. Highly recommended; especially the Android app is nice for mobile playback, supporting streaming to external players (like the mpv app) as well. Extremely well done program.

Interesting project. I think that is possible with vlc too.
The only thing I did today is to add a language pack on a Windows 10 Single Language.
Until now I didn't know that there is that edition. Why Microsoft, why?
It had Dutch only and no other language could be added.
Dutch is not too bad to decipher at least for what I needed to do. If it had been Chinese, I imagine that would be tricky.
Once you find the correct *.cab package for the exact version of win10do, it can be installed via terminal, or command line whatever it's named.
And then registry base has two keys that need to be changed to apply the language pack.
And of course in the end like everything with win10do needs a full restart to apply.
Technically it's still a Single Language. big_smile

Neighbour's kid has an uncle that lives in Netherlands that bought this laptop in Netherlands.
So the neighbour asked me to change the language.

It was not that hard to change the language, why do they name it Single Language then?

Maybe Jellyfin is easier to setup.

It really is a private "Netflix" in a box.

Jellyfin does HLS, meaning it takes care that source and sink format support is compatible, remuxing and transcoding media (using ffmpeg) on the fly and fully transparently (unless your computer is slow...); it can inject subtitle streams; it has extensive library/cataloging support including pluggable metadata sources, tracking of view progress of course, and lots of other toggles

Before, I just used a SMB share to expose my library to different kinds of end devices on the LAN but the Jellyfin experience with search, library interface, app convenience etc is just superior.

Really good FOSS project. If you try it you definitely should use the container image instead of bare metal, this way it really becomes a matter of passing it a config and cache directory to use, here's my preliminary script:

#/usr/bin/env bash
podman run \
  --rm \
  --name jellyfin-server \
  -p 8096:8096 \
  -p 8920:8920 \
  -p 1900:1900/udp \
  -p 7359:7359/udp \
  -v /mnt/t/jellyfin/config:/config:rw \
  -v /mnt/t/jellyfin/cache:/cache:rw \
  -v /mnt/t/video:/media:ro \
