Ouch

I cut my left index finger yesterday, it's drying out now and it stings. I also got a wicked hand cramp in my right hand today for a couple of hours, it was rather uncomfortable!

These are just British problems as told by colonists, am I right? Anyway, hand-cramp 10/10 bad, would unrecommend.

And we are completely off topic. Nice setup, Matt!

Be careful with how often you jerk it, dude.  You don't realise how useful your right hand is until you can't use it.

It's okay, I can already do everything with my left hand. I'm... what is it called? Amphibious. I swim good, too.

Seems that Hyperbola is switching out the Linux kernel for a hard fork of OpenBSD.

I won't comment on the technical pro/cons of this, but anyone who remembers Stallman's duplicitous reasoning back in the day for not including OpenBSD in "FSF-approved" list has got to find this news hilarious.

Will be interesting to see what "new code" they will use for HyperbolaBSD.

I wonder what Theo has to say about this?

Depends on the situation, if you were a cannibal and it was someone else finger and you were serving entrees at a family function. They go well together there.

Otherwise, yes you are right.  I have a nice little blister forming, I just need to resist the urge to pop it.

Pop it and keep it clean, you don't need the pressure of the fluid, and it'll just end up popping anyway. Probably someplace inconvenient and possibly embarrassing.

@damo, if only it was worthy of that.  It's a little blister.

@PackRat, If I do that I can't drink it then!  I'll smear some Guinness on the blister!

Leprechauns are good for general knowledge and Guinness bushcraft.

Note-to-Self:
Never again help someone install Windows 10 on a six year old Celeron laptop with mechanical HDD, because after you're done with OS and driver installs (and all the required reboots), Windows Updates (and another long-arse reboot to apply said updates), and application installs (Ninite helps ease that pain a bit, at least), you'll have turned into that Titanic lady.

^ I remember installing XP back in the day, pretty sure i played an hour or so on the playstation and came back and it was still stuck at "preparing installation". Makes you wonder what is going under the hood hey.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

MS have modernized the OS installation process by listening to (eavesdropping more like it) the comunity with all the slipstreaming tutorials for older versions of Windows. Currently you have an option to automatically create an official bootable USB/DVD with the current OS build (dl link on their official website), which leaves out only minor updates that you will handle post-install. That is still worlds better than having to install all the major updates (or whatever MS calls those big bi-annual patches) from scratch.

That's where I downloaded the installation image from. Thing is, it still resulted in the 1903 (iirc) build being installed, and I had to update to the latest 1909 post-install. Another observation: MS seem to have sneakily removed the option to create an account for the individual PC, and have made it a hard requirement for users to use their MS/Outlook account. I tried to pre-empt that by having the person turn her router off before the account creation, but no luck. At least that's the case for Win 10 Home on bare metal. Might be different on a VM install or for the Pro version, I haven't checked.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Maybe you were unlucky with timing and downloaded the tool before they managed to update the web link, since 1909 installation media should've been up since the November. File creation dates on my data disk:

I am not sure about other versions, but activating offline account with installation of the Pro build 1909 was very obscure and counter intuitive. Also, I would never install an OS that does not offer "offline" account option.

60fps 8k Youtube videos are a thing? Bloody hell, I never thought hardware acceleration would be of any use in Firefox until I've tested this thing.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Since Windows 7 extended support is running out later this month, I purchased a Windows 8.1 pro license for my auxiliary Windows VM (Office 2010 for random documents, Acrobat XI for non-free PDF files, tax filing software that is Windows-only) for $25 (support till 2023, that's almost 4 full years for $25, which is a fair price I'd say) and am now installing.

IDK why this is even called "pro" anymore. The install screen is full of anti-patterns (I had to search online how to skip creation of an online Micro$oft account) and the colours of the metro interface are psychedelic (it said just "Apps are installing" and faded the entire screen background between all the colours of the rainbow and then some -- very vapourwave-like feeling).

Oh well. At least I still get an OS that is not changing things around whenever I'm not looking (like Windows 10 does). I also think there's a way to get the classic Win95-style theme back in 8.1, so I have some hope.
