I haven't seen The Mandalorian, but I already hate baby Yoda. Let's not go to the Internet. 'tis a silly place.

@glittersloth, hook our man up with some nice cans, please.

^ Nothing new to add since I posted in that other thread where he originally asked. Figured he'd have exhausted the entire thomann.de catalog and found something he liked by now.

Are 9 years a good lifetime for modern headphones, I wonder. My father has a pair from the 1970s and they still work flawlessly today. The build quality is the day to today's night, too.

Is that manufacturer still around? If the answer's no, then there's your question answered - they went bankrupt because nobody went back to them for replacements. If they're still in business, their current products most probably aren't built to the same tolerances.

My rec for the ATH-M50x remains. One of those cases where it became the cliche choice for good reason. The older non-x M50 was recommended as a studio beater (popular with bassists and drummers, for some reason) long before the Youtube/Medium reviewers got word of em. For the price, I can't really find much fault. Built well by modern standards, comes with 3 different cables in the box (the coiled cable will probably outlast the headphone drivers), presents most styles of music well enough, sounds good out of a laptop but scales up accordingly with better amplification. Earpads will probably only last a couple of years at most if worn daily, but 3rd-party replacements are abundant and relatively cheap. Same for the cushion headband. Another downside might be the proprietary twist 2.5mm connector for the cables, but again, replacements are readily available. It's only a matter of whether you agree with the presentation/signature and whether the headphone agrees with your skull size. I'm actually thinking of getting the M50xBT version myself.

Naturally, now that I've jinxed it, you'll probably end up buying one that fails a month or two after purchase, and then you'll blame me. I'll just play the consummate politician (meaning I'll ignore you) if/when that happens.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

Did go ahead and setup keybinds to poweroff/reboot. Went with Alt + Down (arrow key)for shutdown and Alt + Up for reboot. It is cool, people will come from miles around to watch as ye magically shutoff and reboot your pc, to all appearances pratically with da powa of your mind !!! Ye shall feel like a TECHNO-GAWD!!! However ... after watching this display of l33tness, family and friends may adopt you as the person they bother with all their tech-issues. An easy solution for this, is to intentionally bork-up their computers when they bring em to you. Nothing permanent, no important data loss or that kinda thing but enough so that they'll never bother you with such again. tongue

Also thinking about totally getting rid of the right click menu, never use the thing anymore. Why have it then ? If someone ever does steal this old laptop, they won't have a friggin clue. Boot it up, WTH is this ?!?!? No hints about what to push to do what, how to use the thing. No panel launchers, no icon thingies. Just a clock with current date bottom right. If I get rid of the useless right click menu WHAM, vast majority of comp-users would be rendered completely unable to use my OS's !!! big_smile

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

That's it, gonna have to put out my own gnu/Linux distribution !!! YEAH !! Introducing BLiz gnu/Linux (based on Debian) Will no doubt attract a massive userbase, with reviews such as follows.

In this issue, we are looking at BLiz gnu/Nix ...

It was very easy to install, then we rebooted and couldn't tell what the heel was going on, AT ALL !!! Yes, it could maybe run great .. possibly ! Errrrr, if we had any clue as to how to use it. We here at <whoever/whatever gnu/nix site> are giving it the much sought after rating of worlds most user unfriendly distro on earth !!! Chit, we couldn't even figure out how to get a terminal open ! Had to hold down the power button to shut the computer off !

Lmao ... yeppers, just the way I likes it and one of the many awesome things about gnu/Linux, my OS, my way, made for me ... and ONLY me ! tongue

PS, Hold down Alt and press the down arrow button ya silly people. How hard is that ?

Cannibals on Thanksgiving eat turkey. They love it, it tastes like dry chicken, same as people. Many Bothans died to bring us this information.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

^ You know my deceased dad was Turkish. You didn't? He was from Mersin, a lovely town on the Mediterranean...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mersin

His death was quite tragic, and pains me to this day. He was eaten by cannibals on Thanksgiving at Plymouth Plantation.

All those facts are true, except my dad died at the age of 83 of a heart attack. He also had severe dymentia, so it was not too traumatic for me at that point.

Same for my dad, except he was a year older sad

The heart attack was brought on by a kidney infection, caused by inadequate hydration during a hospital stay. (In my non-medically-trained opinion)

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

My dad had a few previous micro-strokes that didn't effect his body, no paralyzation (he was in quite good health), but he was old. His blood pressure got to him, I think, he was stressed from the get-go, I don't think losing his mind helped him be less stressed. He was a medical doctor for the V.A., the result of coming to the U.S. on a Fulbright Scholarship in 1947, a pulmonary specialist who spoke 6 languages into his late sixties.

Well, that escalated quickly. But you can't argue with facts, we're all going to die. Which forum is this? Off Topic? OK, all good, that was all way off topic.

I drove through Mersin on my way to Kaş, Turkey. Kaş is just about the most wonderful place in the world (along with Kekova, a short distance from Kaş). Highly recommend both if any of you get a chance.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

My mom has been to Turkey with my dad a few times, I have not. More Roman ruins than Italy, more Judaeo-Christian ruins than Israel, more Greek ruins than Greece, or so I've heard. Erdogan is a horror, IMO. Not going there anytime soon as an American-Turk.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

I purchased a turkish rug in Kaş that the turkish rug sellers mum made lovingly (not specifically for me but lovingly none-the-less), or so he said. Sounded pretty legit. That turkish rug, purchased in Kaş, just about the most wonderful place in the world and made lovely by the turkish rug sellers mum (not specifically for me but lovingly none-the-less) now resides in my holiday home in the most wonderful place on earth, or so I say.

My wife and I loved Turkey. Wonderful country and wonderful people and we'd both love to go back and see more of it... but things have changed there since we visited. Would be wary about going there atm.

Re: Completely Off Topic Chat

I just met a Turkish rug dealer while having lunch in downtown Charleston. She gave me her card, here's the website...

She was my age, mid-fifties, and from Turkey. Her attire/personal style was on point.

^Well the media can really paint the picture of how we imagine the people in other countries look and behave.
The film is fictional yet it does what it was intended to do.
Makes you imagine things in the bad direction.

I quoted RT news awhile ago and got roasted by western news watching folks. Most sheeple have this insane idea that the USA and western media tells no lies!
